I did not see any new post sent on the 11th, so I'm sending this test post to see if the message board is taking new posts.

Anyway, on a side note:  17 years ago today I got engaged to my wife (we got married July 17, 1999).  I felt confident that she would accept my proposal, but still I was nervous about asking.  A few days before we got engaged she showed me a sales paper from a local jewelry store and she made a point about a particular engagement ring that she liked.  When she was not looking, I confiscated that paper and cut out the picture of that ring.  Then on the 12th I asked her to go for a ride, I cannot remember exactly my excuse for going out, but as we were passing the shopping center where this store was located I pulled into the parking lot and parked the car.  She turned and asked me why we stopped here.  I reached into my pocket and showed her the clipping and replied, "I thought we would go in and look at this ring."  I did not even get the chance to ask her to marry me, because she immediately grabbed the clipping and jumped out of my truck and declared "Let's go" (or something to that effect).  I took that as a "yes" to my proposal.  This is one of my happiest moments of my life.

do not think of yourself more highly than you ought but rather think of yourself with sober judgment

I would recommend changing the title of this thread, since the site worked and it is still here.  ;)

Congratulations! I've been married for 22 years now, and I still cherish the day that my wife said "Yes" when I handed her the ring (My Precious). My initial plan failed miserably. I was an officer for the National Honor Society in Education (Kappa Delta Pi) at Liberty University, and we were having our induction ceremony in December, at the end of the first semester. Since I was going to be dressed up in a suit as one of the key presenters, I thought it would be a great time to propose. I would have an audience, and a fancy reception afterward, all at no expense.  ;D

Alas, the night of the ceremony, Lynchburg had one of its worst ice storms on record. Everything was cancelled (including final exams). We had to reschedule for January. Unfortunately, my wife's father had a heart attack, and she would not return for the Spring semester. So I decided to propose to her before she could get away. It was in the parking lot of Dairy Queen, and we were wearing sweat pants and t-shirts. But she said "Yes," so it still ended up being the best day ever for me!  ;D
My wife is a hottie.

I enjoyed reading your guys' engagement stories, so I guess I'll share mine, too.

I drove my wife to downtown Louisville KY, which was about a 2hr drive so we only went there on very special occasions.  We ate at the Spaghetti Factory, which is one of our favorite restaurants for atmosphere.  Then we went for a short evening walk from there towards the park downtown with the fountains, where I planned to propose.  Everything was going smoothly until...

...along the way, a homeless person decided to walk with us, and strike up a conversation.  I remember him asking me my name and then surprisingly telling us that his brother was also named Mark.  I figured it was a small world.  Then he asked what my girlfriend's name was and surprisingly told us that he had a sister named Alanna.  At this point he lost all credibility.  But I still had a hard time getting him to go away before we got to the park.  With his distraction gone, we arrived and sat on a bench.  I got down on one knee, and pulled out...

...a candy heart that was left over from the previous Valentine's Day.  Alanna had given me a card with a bunch of those attached to it, and I had eaten all of them except one.  It said "Only One" on it, and I'd saved it for months (good thing those never expire) for just this occasion.  I told her that I wanted her to be my one and only for the rest of my life, and asked if she would marry me.  Then I pulled out the ring, and she joyously said yes!

We've now been married for 17 years, and it's been the best 17 years of my life.  In fact, each year has been better than the previous.  That's not to say that there haven't been difficult times.  And certainly there are some days, weeks, or even months that dip down for a while.  But overall if I take years as a whole, they've each gotten better.  I am very blessed that she said "yes" that day, and that we keep saying "yes" to each other every day since :)
