im getting my girlfriend a ring for her birthday coming up in less than a month, and i need some help deciding. it will be between either this one or this one. what do you guys think? which one looks better? let the voting begin!

I would also say the 1st (although her preference would obviously be the best bet.) I am a fan of the more traditional style.

#1 has a nice, clean look to it. But more stones may "play" better.

My wife says #1, but she likes simpler designs.

Gretel says unless it's an engagement band do NOT get her a diamond...go sapphire or amethyst or birthstone, and I completely agree. You don't want to confuse her...

well, i should probably mention shes a bit more than just a girlfriend...so i have no problem getting her a diamond. i suppose you could call it a promise ring of sorts.

Don't play with fire because you can get burned. If your going to get her a diamond, be prepared to get down on one knee. If your not, I wouldn't go near it then. Just get her something that she will like and save the diamonds for when your ready.

I agree with the thought of staying away from a diamond unless you are ready to tie the knot. With that being said, the second choice is a higher quality gold and only a slightly smaller karat of diamonds. I would choose number two!

Just a side note: If you get her a birth stone ring when you do decide to propose to her you can have the birthstone added to the engagement ring or even wedding ring. That is what my wife and I did with her ring and it is really nice...

I agree with the other married guys in this thread (ie. those who have experience in this sort of thing), and recommend not getting a ring that looks like an engagement ring if you're not getting engaged. Personally, I would recommend getting a different stone (rubies are cool). However, if I had to pick between these two choices, I would go with #2.

I'll echo what others have said. Diamonds send the message of engagement, leading to marriage. Even if it doesn't mean that to you, it likely would to her, so make sure that's what you want it to mean. I did get my wife a "promise ring of sorts" with an amethyst, and she really appreciated it.
