The ORDIR gives the following Redemption definition of an idol:

Quote from: ORDIR pg 42

A card is an idol if it represents a statue or physical representation of a false god.

Note that this does not specify artifact.

Many ancient kings set themselves up as false gods. Pharoahs in Egypt were believed to be representations of Horus. Augustus Cesar (the one who called the census that sent Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem) issued coins that had his face on one side and "lord and god" on the other. Nebuchadnezzar set up an image of himself, and when Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego didn't worship him he threw them into the furnace.

I submit that these characters should be considered idols for Redemption purposes. Discuss.

I think the intent, in regards to the definition, was for cards that have a man-made image of a physical or spiritual being that was made into a molded image. So I’d disagree with humans being an idol. They may be a false god but the Redemption definition should be of something that’s created by man (like a graven image) for an idol to be considered a false god.

Idols are also an "image" of whatever false god was worshiped. When it says we are made in the image of G-d, it is one of the reasons He forbid making an image of anything, since we are His image in the world.
