They are both pretty equivalent now. If we went back to when Guitar Hero was just a guitar and Rock Band had all the extra peripherals (mic, and drums) then it would be a little different. If you want guitar shredding challenges, Guitar Hero is still the way to go because their guitar stuff is way harder than Rock Band. Also, the drum kit that comes with Guitar Hero is a little cooler with the symbols, but my drumsticks tend to get stuck under them when I am playing which cause my sticks to go flying. I guess I would give the upper hand to Guitar Hero on those aspects. Rock Band's downloadable content seems to be more extensive than Guitar Hero, but Guitar Hero has been able to nail down bigger name bands than Rock Band has when it comes to larger music libraries from those bands (Aerosmith and Metallica for example). For content though I would still go with Rock Band.

I prefer actually playing music to pretending to play music.

Yes, but for people who just want to have fun rocking out without investing the time/money/energy to learn a difficult craft, these are excellent products.

It's really just an opinion.

My opinion is that Guitar Hero is WAY better for guitar (due to the increased amount of difficulty compared to Rock Band). But I completely agree with uthminister about the drums, everytime I'm playing the drums my stick will get stuck under the symbols and cause me to lose my train of thought and end up failing the song.

But because of songs like Assassin, BYOB, Hot for Teacher, Scream Aim Fire, Satch Boogie, Guitar Hero would my first choice because it's challenging. I've played Rock Band on Expert, and I could honestly do it with my eyes closed.  :P

For the on-disc stuff regarding Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2, they're about equal. Satch Boogie is admiteddly harder than anything on RB2, but that's it. Painkiller and Panic Attack are (in my opinion) harder than anything else on GHWT. Rock Band's DLC however, completely blows anything Guitar Hero has to offer out of the water. Caprci Di Diablo, Constant Motion, and Thrasher are all much, much harder than anything in GHWT. It's really not even a competiton to be honest. Just a note, Rock Band 1 was nothing in difficulty, Rock Band 2 is a lot harder.

The majority of the people I have talked to prefer the Rock Band 2 kit to the GHWT kit. The biggest reason for that is the GHWT kit can get a bit unwieldy. The cymbal attachments for the RB2 kit are adjustable, making them a better option if you really like the concept of cymbals. From a gameplay prospective, this does make the game harder though. It's also worth noting that the way GHWT charts the drums is absolutely ridiculous. It charts each note on the same pad for every song (yellow is hi-hat, red is snare, etc), which makes songs like Everlong nearly impossible. RB2 doesn't have this problem, making the same song (Everlong), easier (which is a positive thing in this aspect, because it's still a difficult song, but the way GHWT version made it more difficult was forcing a person to switch hands for the snare hit, which wouldn't happen on a real kit). GHWT does however, have seperate charts for the Rock Band and World Tour kits, which is nice.

Rock Band does have much, much more DLC, but saying Guitar Hero has bigger bands with more content is arguable. AC/DC, one of the biggest selling rock bands of all time, is exclusive to Rock Band. The exclusive bans for Guitar Hero (Van Halen, Aerosmith, and Metallica) are admiteddly impressive, but they're not doing much with the lisences after making the games, which is frustrating. Rock Band has the Beatles and Pearl Jam, which are also big bands.

Rock Band got me into music and drumming, please get off your high horse.

Hahaha that was an amazing comic.

Hm, from what I've played on RB2, it didn't seem hard... at all. Maybe I was playing the wrong snogs? Who knows. I prefer the song choices of Guitar Hero, though. A lot of the songs on their playlist were already on my Zune, so it was fun being able to play them.

EDIT: Yikes there were a lot of typo's.

And that just comes down to personal preference. Difficulty-wise, try Panic Attack, Painkiller, and Visions.

I was very happy when I first heard this song was going into one of those games. DT is ftw. (new album is amazing too btw...)

I think I'll go listen to that song again. I love it.

Panic Attack

And yet another DT song.  ;D

Isnt Pull Me Under on one of those games as well?

Yeah, Pull Me Under is on World Tour. It's really easy compared to the other two though.

I'm still waiting for The Glass Prison though.

Pfft, I want them to put the entire 12-step saga in there. As one song. That'd be the ultimate challenge.

Glass Prison -> This Dying Soul -> The Root of All Evil -> Repentance (this would be boring though) -> The Shattered Fortress.

That or Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.

 ;D

I am not a big fan of either, due to the cost and the darkness of the songs and characters.
