Christmas Gift for the Wifey

So I want to get my wife a tablet of some kind. This being our only Christmas married without kids I want to get her something special. I am looking at a budget of 400-600 dollars. I'm looking for something that will enable her to listen to music, surf the web, use netflix and do research for school papers. Email, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and all the other social media need to work well on said tablet and I'd like her to access to any of the new apps she wants.

Any suggestions on where to look, what to avoid ect.

I am not great with technology so if you could tell me things in laymans terms I would appreciate it.

Last year, I got my wife a Nexus 7 tablet, and she's loved it. Smaller than a full-size iPad but still substantial, it's great for browsing, communicating, and super-casual gaming. It's around the $200ish range, and it's been a wonderful investment.

I just bought a tablet on Black Friday, and I absolutely love it. I got a refurbished Asus Memo HD 7 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E0FDYLI/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). It's great for watching videos, playing casual games, browsing the internet, and doing other stuff like that. I only spent about $115, but like I said, it was refurbished. It's still a good deal at new, too.

To be honest, I don't see a lot of difference between the Google Play store and the Apple store, but that's because my needs were relatively simple in terms of a tablet. My computer power is in my PC :P

Everyone I know that's gotten a Nexus absolutely loves it. I myself have a Kindle Fire but I would also recommend the Nexus.

Does a nexus have the ability to use iTunes?

I don't think it can use iTunes, but there are plenty of ways to sync it up.

I don't have much personal experience with the Nexus so I'm not sure about the iTunes question, I just know people that like it and I know from what they say (and my personal experience with the Kindle) that it's better than my Kindle Fire, haha.

I can definitely speak to how great the Nexus 7 is. The iPad Mini is also a safe choice.
