I'm surprised a thread had not been started about the new History Channel mini-series. If I were to compare it to anything it is similar in a way to the Ten Commandments. They have kept it close to scripture, but they do tend to have some historical inaccuracies.

Yeah, I noticed in the most recent episode that they left out the dove when Jesus was baptized which is a very significant part of the story so that was kinda disappointing. Plus Noah has an Irish accent which is kinda funny. And obviously Samson's a tank and it's awesome.

Well on the episode where Samson takes out the philistines, the philistines have roman like armor instead of their brass fish scale armor and Delilah cuts Samson's hair with scissors instead of a knife, She doesn't even cut it all off.

Well, of course there were aliens. But they weren't the same aliens as that documentary last week. Those were different ones.

The show is great!  Though it's not just the History Channel that makes some of it inaccurate, it's also the producers Roma Downey and her husband...I was most confused when they said that King Cyrus threw Daniel in the Lion's Den, but it was King Darius that the bible speaks about (Cyrus and Darius were co-rulers).  Also, I wanted to see Jeremiah weep since he's known as the Weeping Prophet.  My wife pointed out that they made David look forceful on Bathsheba and made her look like she didn't want it.  Interesting takes..... I do agree that no dove was a bit of a let down.  But for the most part I'm intrigued by the performances.  The showdown in the desert between Satan and Jesus was exquisite!  Hmmmm...."Showdown in the Desert" that sounds like a dual G/E enhance....lol!

I'm guessing the reason they used Cyrus instead of Darius is because we don't actually know (historically) who the Darius in Daniel was.

They have taken quite a few liberties, but they are trying to keep the spirit of the text right.

I was surprised that they skipped most of the kings, which left out Elijah entirely, but I guess they had to make choices with only 10 episodes.

Apparently, one of our christian radio stations here in PA downed the show.  They said there were too many inaccuracies and the character portrayal of King David was not how we interpreted it in the bible.  Interesting....

It is not 10 episodes but a 10 hour program broken down into 5 episodes that are 2 hours long.

I was surprised that with the book of Daniel they did not show the writing on the wall. Also wasn't the furnace already burning when they got thrown in? When they showed the nativity story, they depicted the wise men  showing up right when he was born. They don't appear until he is in Nazareth.

they have took some created licensee. But i think the amount of people who are watching it's awesome. Plus from what i saw they did make the ark look like and ark.

True, it is supposed to be one continuous program, however the point still remains, they only had 10 hours (which is actually probably closer to 7.5 hours when you subtract commercial time)

I would argue they are keeping in the spirit of the Bible while taking creative license on many of the details, and putting a good focus on the New Testament (specifically the life of Jesus since there are 4 hours of Jesus (although some of that is about setting up his life and some of it might be the start of the church, Wikipedia is only giving me a brief description of it)) even though the Old Testament is quite a bit longer than the New Testament.
