What are the CURRENT TOP 5?

How would you rank the top 5 defenses, top 5 offenses, and then the top five complete offense/defense combinations with the cards that are available going into the 2012 National Tournament? (I am just trying to get a perspective outside of our small playgroup bubble)

Samuel, Isaiah, Daniel splash, FBtN banding, and Joseph are probably the top 5 most common/best offenses that you'll see. As for defense, it really depends on how people play it, you'll see a lot of splash, Assyrians, Canaanites, Gen Egyptians, and Magicians everywhere. Together, I'm not quite sure but just put almost any of these together and they could work depending on how people play them (especially Gen-Egyptians).

I'm more inclined to agree with red wings offensive list

Also this thread probably needs defining between t-1 and t-2

Isaiah doesn't have the speed or the power to be a top offense, IMO. Daniel may be underrated, but again, probably not fast enough.

I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Is the Watertomb referring to Samaritan Water Jar and Garden Tomb? Sorry for the question but I don't want to assume...

4. ???
Coincidentally that's the face most of my opponents make when they see my defense.

I think you are right except I think Sam/FBTN is better than Gardensciples.

I'd agree if it weren't for the fact that everyone is gunning for Sam decks.

Offense:
Sam Variants
TGT Variants
Disciples Variants
Isaiah Variants
Genesis

Defense (assuming you're dedicated):
Gates of Samaria
Magicians
Black
Egyptians
Babylonians

I'd agree if it weren't for the fact that everyone is gunning for Sam decks.
This is a very good point, but in a speed versus speed world, it really doesn't matter most of the time.

Any thoughts now that Nationals 2012 is in our rear view mirrors?

Really? FBTNB at the bottom of those five? Sheesh. Apparently winning Nats just isn't good enough anymore...

It's Martin Miller. He's the only person who can do THAT well with it. If it had two Ishmaiah's I'd make it higher.

Entirely disagree. The reason his FBTNB deck was so good was because he used a defense that got blocks and helped with speed. If more people had played it, The Deck would have been swallowed whole. RDT (well, and JSB) was the only one to use a decent defense, and look where he ended up! I'm becoming more and more convinced that good offenses will be compact enough to make room for defense.
