New to the game where to start. HELP

         Hi Everyone,

This game have recently catch my interest, since as a Christian I would not like to play MTG anymore. Basically, I would like some advice on where to Start. I know it is not magic, but I'd like to build decks as complex as possible, and have a good inventory of cards so have my options for decks to build. From the little information that I have found about where to start, I found that the best set are Priest, then Kings, Apostles and Women and Warriors, is that correct.

I'd like to take advantage of the offer on the website when you buy a starter you get a booster pack free, Here are my options.
                1) a)4th Edition Starter Decks (I & J) , tenth anniversary (g & h) starters ,the 2 booster packs of each The Women and The Kings, and 3 booster packs of  The Priests.

Or second Option would be 2) The GRAB BAG  which includes a lot of Bulk cards and one 4th Edition Starter Decks .

Are the Disciples and Thesaurus Ex Preteritus Booster packs Good Buys?

I would really appreciate your suggestions, because I really do not know what should I buy, I know there is also the Rock of Ages and Faith of Our Fathers, but I could now found too much info about them.  I am planning to spend about $40 to get Free Shipping . Thank you!

Hi Cronos,

It's great you want to play the game as an alternative to Magic. That's actually how I got started playing back in 1998, yes the game is that old :P. Honestly, your best starting investment would be to get an I/J starter and then build from there. It's the latest set of cards to come out and is a lot of fun and easy to learn for new beginners. The four themes that are in those are Judges/Ruth, Angels/Disciples, Evil Israelites/Philistines, and Demons/Romans. After playing with those cards there are different paths you can go. The Rock of Ages tins and Faith of Our Fathers Tins offer you a bit of each theme that's currently out there (I think there are over 15 good and 15 evil at this point, it's sometimes hard to keep track). Not only that, but they also come with packs from previous expansions to increase your collection or give you trading power for other cards. Each one gets you an Unlimited, Prophets, Priests, and either Kings or Patriarchs depending on the tin. Disciples and TxP are great once you have decided on what theme you want to play more, but if you like Judges for example, most of their cards come from the tins. I do have quite a few sets of tins lying around along with starters for sale, and I will also match the 40.00 for free shipping if you are interested.  You can look at my thread below to see my current stock or send me an email cybercrusadersrealmATgmailDOTcom (replace the AT and DOT with @ and .) or send me a private message and we can discuss further. Where are you currently located?

Starting out, I would suggest this buying order:
    The new I/J starters
A G/H starter tin (it contains the dominant NJ)
FooF and RoA tins contain powerful cards with various packs from Redemptions history.
(At the moment, I don't have the time to look up the strongest/most used tins, but I didn't want to ignore your question either.)

Individual cards and packs from players would supplement the above well.

I'm sure others will chime in with their opinions to help you get a good idea of what to purchase.

Actually soulseeker, it would have to be a G/H gift set to get the New Jerusalem dominant, not just a 10th Anniversary tin, just in case any of the tins not in gift sets are still around...

Personally I would suggest picking a theme like fbtnb, judges, disciples, priests, prophets, angels, TGT, Luke/John hero's ect and then buying singles that benefits your theme. You can fin lots of cheap prices on many if the cards that fit these themes.  On defense do the exact same thing.  Pick Pharisees, Egyptians, Babylonians, Assyrians, Sadducees, philistines, Canaanites, Persians, emperors, heretics, or herod's and buy cards that benefit that defense.

As you get accustom to the game try adding to your card collection slowly, begin playing new themes, try to learn ways to combo themes together. For instance prophets and angels are showing up as side brigades in many many decks today. You may have a Kings based offense with a small prophet/angel splash to aid in powering the kings.

Thanks for all the replies, do you recommend getting at least the 4th edition Starter? How can I buy a theme? Is it by buying a bunch of booster of specific expansion? or is it each tin box has a theme? Honestly I really want to learn, but I am still in the process thanks for your patience.

Each tin has the basics for a theme. you have too get the rest of the theme from other tins and other sets. If a certain theme interests you, I'm shure someone would give you the list of cards necessary and how to use them.

The 4th edition starter is a good thing to get, if nothing else to get the dominants from it.  The newest Tin (Tin 26) has a couple of cards that should go into most decks.  The 6 tins (Tins 20-25) that made up the last set all have pretty good power (but in the case of the genesis tin, you are going to want the cards from the other three genesis tins).  Tin 19 (the garden tomb tin) is also very powerful.   The starter, Tin 26 and any of these tins will give you a pretty good base, but there a going to be cards from the boosters that you are going to want to make a really competitive deck.  I would suggest trading for or buying these as singles either from someone on the forum, or from somewhere like Threelionsgaming.

I'd like to ... have a good inventory of cards so have my options for decks to build.
People seemed to have missed this comment in all their suggestions of how to build one specific strong deck.

I would suggest (like everyone else) that you start with the newest Starter Decks.

Then I would suggest that you go to The Storehouse and get a ton of cheap cards for only the price of shipping.  That will give you the "good inventory" you are looking at and will allow you to build a bunch of lower powered decks to see what you like the most.

After that I agree with everyone else that the next step would be to buy 1 or 2 FooF/RoA tins to boost the power of whichever deck you decide to be your tournament deck.

Yes, that's exactly what I want just to have many options, rather than build a powerful deck. I have no plans to get into tournaments yet. I appreciate your response.

I got the base I/J deck and modified it slightly to work even better with a ruth offense as my first deck. Ruth is a pretty good one for starting in on the game with I find

Welcome to the game, the community, and the message boards! Also be sure to check out the Redemption Discord. And yes I agree about the Ruth offense. It's always been one of my favorites. Also, the new set, Lineage of Christ, that is soon to come out, has a ton of Ruth support!
