How much does deck size effect how good the deck is?

I think a players understanding of the game combined with the understanding of their own deck is the most important thing. For new players still getting acclimated to the game I would say speed with power aka Gardensciples/Sam decks

But in IMO you can catch people off guard with a solid deck that you know well if your a good player.

My brother lost one game with his 154 card deck a few years back. He played a considerable amount of games with it too.

I personally think it's more about the style of the deck. An aggro 57 can be good, but generally 50 is optimized for the kind of speed aggro desires. A 154 deck can be good so long as it isn't a stall or defensive heavy deck. I've beaten The Deck a number of times with a 154, albeit on RTS where we have no time limits.

I also think it depends on what the overall strategy of the deck is.

A defense-heavy deck that is built to completely shut down an opponent's deck will not be any good at 50 cards.  It is HIGHLY unlikely to succeed at 57 cards.  But it has a good chance of winning most of its games at 63-70 cards.  Bigger than that is again unlikely to succeed unless you get up to 154 cards.

An offense-heavy deck that is built to be unstoppable and get to 5 LS consistently before your opponent is HIGHLY unlikely to succeed at anything over 57 cards, and is MOST likely to succeed at 50 or 51 cards.

A balance deck has the most flexibility, but I suspect still has the best shot at winning if it is somewhere between 50-57 cards.
