Current Type 1 Meta?
« on: January 10, 2020, 01:26:28 PM »

I am new to the modern meta of Redemption. I used to play Redemption when I was in high school and the newest set was Disciples from what I can remember. The Garden Tomb was a big deal back then. I had a desire as a kid to build a collection of all the cards but never got anywhere close. I was rather limited financially as many high school students are!

I got rid of my small Redemption collection during high school and largely forgot about the game for years. I am a youth pastor now and was sitting in my office one day and remembered Redemption. I am back into Redemption now as a collector and also out of the desire to get the kids in my youth group interested in the game.

I have built a collection of essentially every card ever made for myself and have tons of extras for the kids in my youth group to use. Now that I have built this collection it is time to start building decks.

There is one problem though, I am not sure what decks to build out of the cards! I am totally separated from the modern meta. What is the modern Type 1 meta? What type of offenses and defenses are viable? What decks should I aim to build? I am rather lost so please direct me toward any helpful resources on this so I can build viable Type 1 decks. I am not interested in Type 2 yet. Maybe down the road. Just Type 1 2 player and Type 1 multiplayer for now.

Hi there,

and welcome back to Redemption!  :)

To get some ideas maybe you can start checking: here, here, here or here.

For further help you can also cross check e.g. the Contender Decks of YouTurnGames which provide some insights into possible setups (not necessarily current meta but getting into some basic and advanced constellations). Another idea might give the Deck Builders of Three Lions Gaming which are created for particular offenses and defenses.

Hope this will help to get you started. Sry that I cannot answer your question in particular since I am also not sure what the current meta is all about (fortunately it got widened IMO to a variety of possibilities, e.g. within previous Nats Flood Survivors saw a lot of play!).

Bye

Thanks Reth quite helpful. Would appreciate any other input that you all might have?

Specifically what are the main offenses currently and the main defenses in the meta? How do those of you that are knowledgeable see LoC changing this?

Modern meta Decks normally contain some staple high end cards. Depending on the depth of your collection it may or may not be possible to build multiple decks at this level. Another resource for ideas on deck builds is YourTurnGames.biz Contender Decks. Competitive mid level decks, incorporating modern meta in thematic deck builds.

As long as the Old "Throne of David" is around then Royalty is good

I see evil royalty getting a solid boost this year, not that brown needed more toys but theyre are getting them for defense

There are going to be some "Meek" variants thats are contenders for top tier/2nd tier

The New Joshua makes Red (notice all meek heroes are red) extremely flexible and hard to stop with a set up defense

Thank you for your input guys.

Mike, what in your mind are the staple high end cards needed for modern meta decks? Trying to gauge how many meta decks I can feasibly make out of my collection. There are a few staple high end cards I can think of that would be necessary for a meta deck after doing some research but curious if I am on the right track.

Thank you jbeers and Mike. This is very helpful. I have one small favor to ask. For the cards you guys listed for some of them there are various versions of the card such as Nebuchadnezzar, Captain of the Host. For beginners like me would you be willing to edit your posts and list which sets these cards are from?

Thanks for taking the time. For me I have a copy of all of those cards and duplicates of some but not many duplicates. It seems building one meta deck is most reasonable.

Generally speaking, the newest versions of those cards are the best ones. There some notable exceptions however, like Falling Away, and some specific use cases where the older versions are better.

I would definitely go with the Thesaurus Nebuchadnezzar. For Captain of the Host, both the Warriors and PoC versions are solid.

I disagree on Nebby. I think the TxP version will be more popular than the PoC until and unless the old one rotates out. There are arguments for old Cap as well.
ANB is good. Change my mind.

Thank you for clarifying which sets the cards are from. This is immensely helpful to know what high end cards are requisite/commonly found in meta decks now a days. Thank you for taking the time this is very beneficial to know for players who are new to the modern meta such as myself.
