"Red Spread Redemption"

Hey guys, this is a deck I've been playing quite a bit this season--lots of online games and a couple tournaments. It has a pretty good record though it had by far it's worst draw last week in round 4 of the Iowa State tournament (0 ECs showed up in the first three turns despite having 9 of them plus the Darkness LS, and I lost 5-3 in three turns). Other than that terrible game however, it's been a very consistent deck.

Dominants
Son of God (I)
Angel of the Lord ( C)
The Second Coming
Three Woes (RoJ)
Christian Martyr ( C)
Vain Philosophy (J)
Falling Away (Promo 2018)

Lost Souls
Lost Soul (Prosperity)
Lost Soul (Wanderer) (FoM)
Lost Soul (Jeremiah 28:6) (Exiles)
Lost Soul (Darkness)
Lost Soul (Humble)
Lost Soul (Hunter)
Lost Soul (Covet)

Heroes
Mighty Men
Ishmaiah the Gibeonite
Uriah the Hittite
Asahel (TxP)
Captured Kinsmen
Ahimaaz (FoM)
Spy (FoM)
Phinehas, son of Eleazar (FoM)
Caleb (FoM)
Joshua, Son of Nun
Captain of the Host (Wa)

GE
Hailstones (FoM)
Jordan Interrupted (PoC)
Bravery of David (RoA)
Counsel of Abigail (RoA)
A Soldier's Prayer
Fourth Bowl of Wrath (RoJ)

EC
Conjurers
Damsel with Spirit of Divination (TxP)
The Deceiver (RoJ)
Outsiders (Black/Gold) (RoJ)
The Priests of Zeus
The Amalekites' Slave (FoM)
Astrologers (TxP)
Nebuchadnezzar (TxP)
Fire Foxes

EE/Curses
The Fall of Man
Betrayal (PoC)
Regrets
Scattered
Divination (TxP)
Dream

Arts/Sites/Forts
Urim and Thummim
Hezekiah's Signet Ring
Book of the Covenant (PoC)
Majestic Heavens (Promo)
Storehouse

Reserve:
Foreign Sword
You Will Remain
Belshazzar's Banquet
I am Creator
Lot's Wife (FoM)
Benaiah (FoM)
Treasures of War (CoW)
Covenant with Adam
Mourn and Weep
Lost Soul (Hopper) (FoM)

Notes:
--I put the DAE cards in the group where they always got played (I think I've used 4th Bowl's evil side once on Outsiders)
--There's been a couple different versions with some variation in the Reserve.
--Once Phase 2 released, it was a very difficult choice of which Captain of the Host to use...I'm still not sure I've made up my mind entirely...
--King of Tyrus has been an "in and out" character...definitely wish I'd had him for that game at IA state... :P
--Wages of Sin has been another "in and out" card...the deck typically draws very fast so it's rare that I've missed Wages (Regrets is the card that it's been vying for a spot with).

As those who have played against this deck can attest, mono-Red is definitely playable right now.  8)

No David the Shepherd in a red warriors offense with BoD in the deck too? 🤔

It does seem odd, but I've never had a problem with getting Heroes, he adds an additional brigade and Uriah gives me the CBN for Bravery. I'd also rather keep Uriah around.  8)

Definitely the wrong Captain, you have 4 Joshua Heroes

I can't imagine playing Regrets over Wages.  If I was insistent on playing Regrets, I'd put it in Reserve and run Wages maindeck

I did run the PoC Captain at IA state, the draw was nice, but there was a few times I missed the simple FBTN of Joshua/Captain.

The * ability on Regrets has come in handy many, many times. I recall at least one game where it worked 3 times. I'm not saying Wages doesn't belong, but it's just really really tight already.  :D

It's been playable since TexP, so take that. 8)

Why is Ben in reserve? What gets him out? Why not Charms instead?
If you were to go on a trip... where would you like to go?

I don't know if I would go all the way back to TexP, but I recall running a mono-Red/mono-Gray deck after Early Church released, and that was a very solid deck.  8)

He's more or less a "last resort" option if the game goes long and I don't have the Joshua/Captain band anymore. Majestic Heavens can topdeck him (and then I can draw him with Ishmaiah and band to him to create a FBTN battle if needed). With the addition of Remnant however, he actually becomes a very nice first turn Hero as well. If I ran Charms, I'd probably put it in the main deck and move something else to Reserve. However, I've never trusted Charms much as a block and even using it on my own turn often doesn't help much with the ability of Exiles to release captured dudes.

Is Ishmiah worth running at this point? I feel like the band is vulnerable at this point and that Mighty Men tends to be a better draw overall.

Is there a consideration for Jehu's Sword? The instead isn't great, but killing a card in reserve still helps even if it doesn't kill a hero.

On another note, why no Mighty Warrior? he's a little extra speed or a toss the first enhancement, both of which are good.

Ishmaiah helps against small chump blocks like Uzzah and Fire Foxes so if I cut him, I'd probably be inclined to add Babel back in (another card that has been in and out). Plus, what's better than a Mighty Men draw? A Caleb/Asahel/Ishamaiah/Mighty Men draw.  ;D While it's certainly vulnerable to cascades, it puts my opponent in a tougher spot. Mighty Men also can't band to Joshua/Captain to give me the FBTN option.

Jehu's Sword could be a nice Reserve option, (with Caleb to pull it out), I had not considered using that one. However, a general rule that I go by is that a card really has to give me a lot of value to be worth adding an additional brigade to my side of the table.

Mighty Warrior (which I definitely thought would give me a lot of value at the cost of adding a brigade) was in early versions of the deck. I felt that with Urim and Thummim, he would be an excellent "alternate" option to get around things like Falling Away or to pick up freebies when they only had 1 EE to play. What I found however, was that the situations where he was the optimal Hero were very minimal. It was pretty much always better to do some banding and/or drawing.
