Title: Wii Fit
Post by: YourMathTeacher on April 09, 2009, 02:57:26 PM
I just wanted to put a plug in for the Wii Fit. My family is thoroughly enjoying it. The "game" is basically like having a personal trainer help you reach fitness goals. For me, the goal is to lose 22 pounds in three months to bring my BMI (Body Mass Index) down out of the "overweight" category. For my wife and son, their goal is to gain weight to get their BMI up.

Anyway, I would never have paid to go to a gym and work out with sweaty guys. Having these workouts in my own home with my family rooting me on is simply great! There are also some fun balance games that crack my family up every time.

I continue to be impressed with Nintendo's decision to produce "games" that bring families together without the need for shoot-em-ups, all while helping with education, fitness, and laughter.

There was an episode of Rocko's Modern Life where something similar was achieved through questionable use of liposuction.

I only played Wii Fit a little bit, but I did enjoy it. Some neat balance games, especially snowboarding and the one with the many planes with holes in them that you try to tilt the balls into.

There are fitness-specific activites that I also enjoy. Just the word "Yoga" used to make me think "false religion." However, with the Wii Fit, I see it now as an interesting challenge to improve my balance and work some muscles I've never heard of. It's one thing to stand on one leg while holding up the other. It's a completely different challenge, however, to do that while trying to keep the balance dot within the yellow circle on the screen. I didn't realize how shaky I am when standing still.

Thanks for the plug for Wii Fit. My wife and I have been contemplating picking it up, but didn't know anyone who has put is to use. I have lost 28 lbs. since Jan. 5  by simply taking control of my eating habits. Adding a fitness program that is fun, family orientated and avoids the gym is right up my alley. Thanks YMT.

Godspeed,
Mike

Congratulations! Keep it up!

Eating habits are still my weakness. My wife is a great cook who had a Culinary Arts major father.  :o

I've been really wanting to get this, both because I could use something to work out on, and because it just looks fun.  :P  But I've been having trouble finding one....  I've been keeping my eye out at all the electronics/gaming stores around...but they never seem to have any.  Any ideas from anyone of what I could do?

I bought mine online at the Toys R Us website. They included Wii Ski for free. However shipping was about $10 since they send it FedEx.

Toys R Us takes PayPal too.  ;D

I tried Wii Fit but it told me to get off before I broke it...seriously, not in those words, but it said I was too heavy. Shouldn't it take big guys since the point is to help lower the BMI...  >:(

The game will only let you play if you are 330 lbs or below...kinda stinks for bigger guys like me.  But the board can actually take weights up to 660 lbs.  Kinda weird....  Here's (http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080425083924AAI3Twu)where I found it.

Based on the quote from Miyamoto, the board itself is perfectly safe for well over 600 pounds. He was referring to the fact that the Wii Fit "game" that keeps track of your weight and BMI has a bathroom scale feature that maxes out at 330 pounds. You can use the Wii Fit and balance board if you are over 330 pounds, but the Wii Fit tracker can not record your weight.

My wife's brother plays the Wii Fit and games that use the balance board all the time, and he weights 380 pounds. He just plays the Wii Fit using his wife's Mii.

We got a Wii Fit last summer and really enjoyed it.  We don't find time to play our Wii regularly right now but we still enjoy it when we have time.
