Title: My Brute; silly, stupid, and slightly addictive.
Post by: theTLIguy on April 05, 2009, 12:38:40 AM
Anyone fool around with this game? Completely random and silly, but a good time killer when you are bored, or are stuck in class.

As did I earlier this morning.  I definitely think that we on the boards should choose to fight each other often.

How do you guys get such good stats when you're the same level as mine?  I don't really understand much of the mechanics of this, are you supposed to do anything while you fight in the arena or is it completely non-interactive?

There really are no mechanics to understand, it's all random. So just hope you're lucky and your brute isn't a complete idiot.  ;)

How do I become someone's pupil or gain pupils?
Title: Re: My Brute; silly, stupid, and slightly addictive.

Build your dude to challenge them.

If someone does that to you, they're your pupil.

I made mine a few days ago. For the name, I randomly hit my hand against the keyboard because it seemed like every name was already taken.

I'd make a new one with a better name/looks, but fight him and you'll know why I haven't changed :)

Kirk, how'd you get the bear?  Was it something you got as you leveled up or did you start with it?
Title: Re: My Brute; silly, stupid, and slightly addictive.
Post by: Captain Kirk on April 05, 2009, 10:44:25 PM
I got the bear at level 4.  He is so kick-butt!  I was reading on random forums I found through google, and it took people 30-40 tries of making characters to get a bear.  So I'm lucky.  ;)  It helps make up for my lack of good stats.

But Arromir and I are the top top dogs on the boards right now, level 5 each.

How do you level up?  I've done all the battles I can, and I've tried making pupils, but I'm not getting more experience.
Title: Re: My Brute; silly, stupid, and slightly addictive.
Post by: Captain Kirk on April 05, 2009, 10:50:15 PM
I don't just make my own pupils, I actually get friends to become my pupils and they level up under me.  When they level up, I sometimes get experience.  You sometimes get experience when you gain pupils.  But I have 60 pupils... so....

If you mean when you're in the arena choosing opponents, nothing, there's just a picture of a bear there.  If there's a picture of a bear under your abilities in your cell, that means you have a bear pet.

I played this for like 2 hours during school when it was safe, ...

Could you clarify "safe" for me?
Uh-oh, it's a teacher.  ;D

Noo, it's fine.  I still got everything I needed.
I once saw a former high school teacher on facebook during class and teased her about it. She defended her innocence by pointing out the excessive amount of World of Warcraft that I played in her class the previous year.

Haha I have like 8, and I didn't keep all of mine.  I plan to level them all up a bit, then pick 2-3 that I like and start trying to get pupils for them.

**edit** maybe we should start another thread specifically for organizing a lot of pupil-ing.  If everyone makes pupils for everyone else's main brutes every now and then, it should help everyone level up faster so we can start a clan. **edit**

What level did you get the wolf at?  I haven't gotten any bears or wolves, and I've made over 50 brutes and abandoned them.

It stinks that I have at least 50 friends from school signed up as my pupils, but I don't get any experience from them, as they register on the same network as my computer.  I'm sure thats to keep from making a million pupils of your own on your computer to raise your stats.

No you don't. There is a bear in the arena for everyone, go back to your cell. If you had a bear, it would be below the weapons/special powers.

Everything is automatic.

Gonna try leveling up this guy over the next few days and see how he turns out, so far I like him, high HP, thick skin and baton gives him good survivability, I just hope he gets a wolf/bear or some nice weapons.

He's doing ok too, Morning Star isn't as much fun as a flail or hammer, but he has really high str so it about evens out.

From now on I'm rigging my 3 fights per day, I don't want to risk not getting 6 XP every time.

Ah nice... how'd you get them Kirk?

And the wolf is amazing! How the heck do you get one? Without a net... you're screwed.

I've found out just don't attack people with really low health. They ALWAYS have a wolf, fox or bear.  :)

I leveled up so quickly due to lots of pupils from unique IPs.  I have lots of friends in Maryland, Virginia, Florida, and Arkansas (all states that I have lived in) and I know people around the country like you guys.

As to the wolf, it is riculously random.  I've only seen 8 or so, and I wish I could get one as well.  However, Hypnosis and Cry of the Damned also counter the animals.  The first makes the animal fight on your side, and Cry of the Damned makes the animal run away.  Also, if you have great agility, you can sometimes dodge the wolf, or if you have a spear you can counter it when it attacks.  However, I will say that in my past 10+ matches, I have only lost to opponents who had wolves, except one that had Cry of the Damned.

And if you have one of the counters to an animal, it may be advantageous to attack someone with low health.  Also, more likely than not, the characters with low health (especially at lower levels), will simply have dogs, as there are 3 variants of the dog, thus they are MUCH more common.  And it is so easy to beast someone with a dog.

Finally, I might let Arromir start the Redemption Clan (he was the 2nd to level 7).  I don't know if I can start two clans, and a bunch of guys at school are expecting me to start a school clan as I'm at least 2 levels ahead of everyone else on campus.

Nah, don't worry about me Kirk. I only threw this on here because I saw it on another forum and it's a fun little distraction. In a week or so I'll probably forget it with my crazy schedule.

Btw, when you do create a clan the max is only 50 people, so you might one to limit it to one "main" brute.

Well they delete inactive accounts (characters who haven't fought in any arena fights) after 24 or 48 hours.  So if you want to hold on to that lvl 0, then make it do one fight.  It will gain 1 or 2 exp and be able to remain indefinitely.

I'm sorry man.  I hope you took a screenshot before he leveled up.  However, if you did not fight, the character would have been deleted within 48 hours.  So you could have either taken my advice, and we had no idea he would level up with 1 XP, or let the character be deleted anyways.

And wk4c, if you do even one fight, you won't be deleted.  Therefore, you don't need to worry about vacations.

If you place in a tourney, you get ranked, which is likely more experience.

In response to crustpope, I have extra brutes in hope they will be awesome once they level up.

Hey SK... good luck for any of us leveling up and placing in a tournament. I mean... the guy who won was level 58, had about 10 weapons, about 15 abilities and a dog AND a wolf. It will take a LONG time to get that good. :)

But if we all extra create brutes that are pupils of other people, we'll all give eachother xp.

False.  Only unique IP addresses give XP to other brutes.  The very first brute you created, the pupil to my brute, gives me XP every time you level up.  However, each additional brute you make on that unique IP address will not give anyone XP.

Therefore, you have to go to your friends' houses or get your friends to make brutes under you to get XP from the unique IP addresses.

But like sk said, I have extra brutes in the hopes they will be awesome.

Tourneys only get you ranked.  They have nothing to do with experience.  For example, my guy made it to the 1024th final.  Therefore, I now have the rank of "Desert Batterer", and I am the 334th best brute (level-wise) in that ranking.  I had to advance 8 rounds to get that ranking.

You can't MAKE one. You have to have someone click on the link it shows in your brute's cell. When they click on the link, they make a new guy and challenge you, and then they are your pupil.

I had a level 2 brute win 5 rounds before being brought down by a thief with a bear and club.  Even if it's not direct experience points, being ranked will likely get people to want to train their pet under you or challenge you.

I'm only interested in trading for a wolf at the moment.

I have a number of brutes, among them are:
Bear (3)
Scourge (3)
Whip (2)
Armour
Hammer (weapon) + Vitality
Implacable - I was so excited to get this one!  It makes me hit 100% of the time!  I only have a Lance and Herculean Strength with him at the moment, but I really hope I get the Hammer or Scourge, because hitting 100% of the time with one of those..... ;)  So I make sure to fight opponents who have really high agility, so they don't have any advantage from it and they will have less speed, strength, or HP as a result.  ;D

I've heard of people getting animals at level 8.  However, if you look at the top players that are over level 20, I would have no idea when they got their animals.  I got over a dozen dogs at level 1, a few at level 2, and a few at level 3, and only 1 at level 4.  I got 2 bears at level 1 and 1 at level 4.

armor AND thick skin. only thing that could be worse would be a shield... but I still didn't get touched

I hate how your bear splits your health with you, but if you die, the bear doesn't keep fighting. I have vitality with only 56 health?? on the bright side, my bear won't die...

on a side note, I have about 30 brutes that I keep up with.

couldn't have done it better if I could control it!

sabatoge=best special ever. totally ruins your opponents (in this case, MY) weapons that battle... oooh, mix that with Cry of the Damned or Net, and you'd have a killer

Is there an ability/weapons list anywhere?
Title: Re: My Brute; silly, stupid, and slightly addictive.
Post by: Captain Kirk on April 16, 2009, 02:03:19 PM
Well this game has existed less than a month, so the only info I've found on the game is through lots of random forums.  This is the most comprehensive list that I have found with a complete list of weapons, specialities, and supers.

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=90942 (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=90942)

Everything is right except for the names of a few weapons.  Also, I don't necessarily agree with his scores that he rated each weapon and ability by, but that is just me.  I might make a more detailed list later myself.

Here are the corrections to the list for mis-named weapons.

"Ninja stars" = "Shuriken"
"Greatsword" = "Sword"
"Stone Hammer" = "Axe"
"Trombone" = "Trumpet"

Also, I have not find any site that knows the name of the pink bird-like thing (a weapon).  The only weapon I have not personally seen is the leek, but others have confirmed it.  As far as anyone knows, those are all the weapons and animals.  I have also seen each specialty and super, so those are correct.

My brute seems to be pretty good now. I have suit of armor, vitality, survival, and the shield, as well as an axe and club. My stats aren't really anything to be impressed with, but the survivability is nuts.

You do have a nice base, but that fight you linked does not reflect survival at all.  Survival keeps your brute alive with 1 HP left if he would have died from a mortal blow.  In the fight you mentioned, it was simply your armour and shield that kept you alive.

And my guy CaptKirk247 just beat yours for good measure.  ;)

Note that I said survivability, not survival. I have basically every one of the "survivability" specials.

*EDIT* More specifically, your bear beat me :p If I got Cry of the Damned or Net, my brute would be hard to stop. The only people I really lose to are people with bears of wolves.

Ahh, my apologies.  My main guy only loses to other wolves or bears.  I have only lost in tournaments to wolves and one bear.

Hey, is anyone up for a Brute Tournament?  I wouldn't need to host it, but it could be something like this:

You enter your top two brutes into the tournament, to decide the best brute on the boards.  Seeds would be determined by levels, so...

Lvl 11
vs.
Lvl 5

Lvl 10

My Pluto88 brute upgraded to level 8 and got a knife, so now he has his first dinky weapon... But he started with Armour, thats why I kept him, and he just continued to get better!

I would be interested in doing the tournament.  I'm not sure which two brutes I'd enter yet.

Hey guys, once we get 16 brutes, I'll put up the bracket up on the forum, and we can get this off the ground!  I'm glad so many people responded.

Hopefully no one get's left out of the 16 spots available, it just seems like that's the only number I could find that works.

I'll use E-agle as my second.  No one should do any of their fights starting at 6 eastern tonight.  We'll be able to get down to the final in one day by using our three fights towards the tournament, and that also allows for consolation rounds.

Well, some people may be busy.  That'd be really ideal, but I don't know if everyone would be available.

What's good for everyone else?

I'm not upset, its just frustrating when my really strong guy with a hammer can't win. It seems like 50/50. Sometimes he'll hammer pwn somebody and the rest of the time he'll miss, play stupid and die.

Forget immortality I just want a bear.  If anyone of my characters got a bear I would only battle with that character the rest of the time.  This might be because I lose to anyone with a bear and I'm getting mad. lol
