Alright, so I have been fussing with my PS3 for hours and not getting what I need. I humbly ask for any assistance you guys can give me. Here is my problem:
We downloaded the Minecraft game onto the PS3 from PSN (I wish now that I had bought the disk). My whole family loves playing it, even my 7-year-old daughter. We've been playing for months, but suddenly during the last few games it freezes during an autosave.
My first question is whether there is a simple solution to this (besides turning off the autosave feature).
I read through some forum topics about this and many suggested uninstalling and reinstalling the game. However, I don't want to lose any saved data.
My second question is whether I can do this without losing saved games.
In regard to saving games, I plugged in a USB flash drive, but I can't figure out how to transfer saved games from the PS3 to the flash drive.
My third question, then, is how do I transfer existing saves to the USB flash drive?
I finally broke down and purchased one month of Plus+ because I noticed that you can automatically save data to that. I figured that was a good temporary holding place until I figured all this out. I already copied all my saves to Plus+.
Any help would be appreciated. ;D

I've only downloaded 1 or 2 games from PSN and I haven't had the issue you reference with freezing during autosave so I don't have any suggestions for question 1. :(
Usually save game data is stored separately from the game data itself. I'm not in front of my PS3 at the moment, but there is going to be a utility that says something like "Save Data Utility" and a separate one called "Game Data Utility", or something like that. You said you've already copied your save data to PS+ so you prolly already knew this. :P
I can't speak for 100% certainty, but I believe the data in each of these sections is independent, i.e.: you can delete a save game but keep the game data (such as updates or DLC), and I believe you can delete game data without it deleting save games. I think I've deleted game data in the past for games I no longer own and have needed to delete the save games separately. If you like, I can experiment tonight when I get home from work and let you know for sure (I have some save games/game data that I don't need anymore).
I found this video (http://www.cnet.com/videos/three-ways-to-use-a-usb-drive-with-your-ps3/) that describes how to copy and transfer save games to/from a USB drive. Hopefully that helps. :)
-If that doesn't help, let me know exactly what issue you're having (if the USB drive doesn't show up as an option, shows up but the data won't transfer, etc.) and I can do additional research for you.

That would be great if you don't mind. ;D
Thank you for the additional info.

My apologies for the delay in replying. I did remember to do the testing last night but my internet is down so I couldn't post the results til I got to work!
I tested with both game data for a disc-based game AND data for a game downloaded from PSN. The save data and the game data ARE separate and are not linked to each other's presence. You CAN delete game data while retaining save data (and vice versa).
So, you should be able to delete the Minecraft data and keep your save games to troubleshoot the freezing process. Hope this helps!

What a shock, a Sony console is having troubles. ::)

I had more problems with my XBOX 360s than I have ever had with my PS3. ::)
Let's not turn this into a console debate, though. YMT is just looking for advice.

If it was an XBOX thread I would have said something along the same lines so ::).
I didn't want to turn it into a debate, just wanted to make a joke. :)

Fair enough.
YMT - Let me know if you have additional questions or if there's any additional testing you'd like me to do. :)

You were taking unnecessary negative potshots at consoles that you don't like because you are a rabid Nintendo fan. That's not the same as "making a joke." I would appreciate it if you would leave your negativity out of my threads.
YMT - Let me know if you have additional questions or if there's any additional testing you'd like me to do. :)
You've done plenty my friend. I just reinstalled the game, but I'll have to test the saves later, as it is now time for the Florida summer afternoon thunderstorms to begin. ;)
Thank you for your help. I really did not want to lose my son's amazing creations from the Creative mode. ;D
