i cannot get enough of this game. even though it isnt out yet (releases in the US on march 3rd), i find myself playing the demo over and over and over for hours...its an incredible game. anyone that has played an ensemble game (age of empires namely) can appreciate the amount of depth they really put into this game! its so easy to pick up at first...the usual formula of finding/producing resources, then start building...but theres so much more depth to it...so many different strategies to implement. i also like how it included 'leaders' as well with their own special abilities/units. the fact that its all about halo, one of the coolest videogame franchises in history...what more can a RTS fan ask for? anyone else looking forward to this game or played the demo?
-
Didn't Ensemble Studios go defunct? Also, ES makes excellent games, but their customer service is terrible.
-
I've already pre-ordered the Limited Edition! I played the demo a lot but stopped recently because the game is coming out soon and i can't wait.

not exactly defunct...technically they'll be closing down after Halo Wars is released, but they're creating a new studio after the closing as well. they'll be working closely with microsoft studios on future projects, as well as providing continuing support for Halo Wars. so its still all good. :)

I thought I'd heard that Halo Wars was like, the "simple" version of an RTS?
-
how so?

Its only that because it uses the Battle for Middle Earth 1 type of set up where you get 9(?) spots to build things instead of picking any where to build, imo this is my fave type of rts and by no means is it simple.
I still think Bfme2 is the best rts on 360 Halo Wars comes close but isnt epic enough imo.
-
BTME is on the 360? Wow I am behind. Once I get a job, I plan on picking this up. Mainly for Mythic but whatever.

Does Mythic come with both versions of the game or only the Limited?
-
Both I believe.

Both I believe.
Ooh I was just going to get it for Halo Wars but now that makes it all the more worth it!
-
Mythic will ONLY be shipping with the limited edition Halo Wars; you CANNOT get it in the regular edition.
halo wars not epic enough? i'd just like to point out that the demo is simply just that; a demonstration of things to come. not everything that you could normally do was included with the demo. i know for a fact you can zoom in very, very, VERY close to get a nice view of the action and fighting going on...lots of detail. this zoom level was not included with the demo. also, certain upgrades and units for each leader was also held back on the demo. its only meant to give you a little taste of the awesomeness of halo wars so you'll buy the full version. :)

Halo Wars is amazing.
That is all.
-
what more can a RTS fan ask for?
Starcraft II.

I would love to have the demo but it stops downloading when i play halo 3.
-
so sit at the DB for awhile.
-
For me this game represents the best of StarCraft and the best of Empire at War. I may still prefer StarCraft, but this comes in a clear 2nd. ;D

all downloading stops when you play ANY game, not just halo 3. be patient, and let it download. :)

-
Agreed. I got it yesterday, can't stop playing it. :P

wow... Its a good game but its nothing compared to starcraft lol
-
Halo Wars is defitaly fun, all i've played is a 1v1 vs someone that lasted at least an hour and a half...wow...fun lol
-
one of the best games so far out of the whole Halo franchise on Halo 1 can compete with its online and only Halo 2 can compete with the 1 player I just wish it we're out on PC :'( us PC players have needs to :(
-
is halo wars fun? or is halo 1 2 and 3 better?
uh Halo Wars is an Rts, its not the same as an Fps.

Depends on what you're comparing. Halo Wars has BY FAR a better campaign mode. But since Halo Wars' online multiplayer can last quite a long time, sometimes it's much more fun to just play a nice 8 minute Team Slayer and beat up on some n00bs.
-
I was refrancing RTS>Fps Imo, but then again thats all personal opinion.

Halo Wars is actually the first RTS I've ever played. It's tied with Halo 3 in my book, entertaining wise. I like games that make you think, and plan out what you're going to do. But I also like playing games that I'm pretty good at, and it's always fun to get 20+ kill sprees in Halo 3 and then have some little kid say at the end of the round "Lawfuldog is a cheater, everyone report him."
-
Just cuz you hax ;)
-
Just cuz you hax ;)
Me and Chad used to Standby in Halo 2, it was pretty funny to be able to shoot someone twice in the foot with a Battle Rifle and them dying. :-*
-
Wow dude. what a cheater. ;)
-
I played the demo for halo wars recently and all I can say is RTS' for consoles fail.
-

thats why halo wars recently sold its 1,000,000th copy, hmm?
in my opinion, halo wars is the best rts for any console EVER.
-
I still hold my opinion of Bfme 2 being better :P

I dearly love my console and PC equally, but im going to have to go ahead and say that the best RTS on a console cannot to compare to what it would be if it were on the PC.

lol tank rush? i suppose it is feasible...the quickest tank can come out at 3:00...but i have 3 hogs with gunner ready at their base at 1:30. if they have no turrets built, its game over.
-
lol, i dunno i could do whatever strat you wanted me to do.
-
good with any of the covenant?
-
I'm not the best with them but i know basic stratedgy and such with them lol.
-
Did anybody get the legendary edition?
-
i did
-
I bought it on ebay, waiting for it to come in........ :'(
-
i'll prolly be on sometime tonight if anyone wants to play
-
IDK wat i will be doing tonight... CoD WAW, Halo Wars, CoD 4? But if i am on halo wars, you can send me a friend request and an invite: Impish Squire
-
If I had a 360, I'd probably get Halo Wars. However, on the flipside, I have to agree an RTS on a console can only be okay compared to an RTS on the PC. PC allows for much more dynamic play, easier funtionality, and whatnot. But, an RTS is an RTS, and even if it is okay I'd probably play it
EDIT: Typo fix
-
yay for necropost :)
agreed, rts' in general function considerably better on the pc; however, halo wars is by far one of the best outings for an rts on the 360.
-
I don't know. I think the game is a take off of red alert but with some improvements. If I played the game though, I would want if for pc.
-
I'd definetly get it if it came out on the PC. But I don't think I've heard that to be likely in the near future.
-
Did anybody get the legendary edition?
I am thinking of buying Halo wars and I wanted to know what is the legendary edition and is it worth it if I don't have live?
-
you get a few more extra things in the limited edition. from amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/Halo-Wars-Limited-Xbox-360/dp/B001F6KSDM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1246469473&sr=8-2 (http://www.amazon.com/Halo-Wars-Limited-Xbox-360/dp/B001F6KSDM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1246469473&sr=8-2)):
In addition to including the standard retail version of Halo Wars , this Collector's Edition includes:
The Mythic Map Pack from Bungie with three new Halo 3 multiplayer maps: Assembly, Orbital, and Sandbox.
Halo Wars: Genesis, a graphic novel by Phil Noto, Graeme Devine, and Eric Nylund that follows the Spirit of Fire and examines the very first UNSC military campaign against the Covenant
Access to the Covenant Honor Guard Wraith in-game vehicle
Six Leader Cards representing Leaders' with access to elite skills
A Spirit of Fire Patch for identifying yourself as a real crew member
in regards to live, yes, i still think halo wars itself justifies the purchase even if you dont have live. it has a very involving campaign, and a skirmish mode which allows you to to play against the computer on multiplayer maps. you can even adjust the AI to several different levels, including a level that automatically gets harder and harder as you progress. you can also have computer-controlled allies to play 2v2 or 3v3. so yes, i think halo wars is very much worth the purchase even without live. i do encourage you to get live though...playing online against thousands of different players is really fun.
-
Thanks for your help. I will think about whether or not I want to get it.
-
New Maps are out =D
-
thanks for the update.
yes, the new maps are out, and this time this dlc is actually worth the money than the last dlc. 4 maps for 10 bucks is a great deal...even if glacial ravine is almost an exact copy and paste of frozen valley. blood river and memorial basin are my personal faves from the new dlc.
