Gamestop, if you havn't noticed, looks to me like they are going to stop selling xbox and ps2 games next. The gamestop near me are completely rid of xbox :'( didn't even get battlefront 2 yet. I think they might hold on to the gamecube a little while longer but wii is catchin up to them.
-
XBox they're certainly clearing out, but it died long ago. The PS2 is still hanging on.
-
Yeah, I was at my usual one last weekend and they rejected the one XBOX game I had in my trade-in pile. I had no idea they were discontinuing carrying XBOX stuff.
My guess is they'll stop carrying Gamecube stuff before PS2 stuff.

That's because the PS3 is so awful.
-
the ones in my Area have stoped EVERYTHING not the new generation...no GC Xbox PS2 and GBA
-
ouch
-
In all fairness, they do not have the space to store all those games plus the new ones plus those cool cardboard cutouts of Mario, Pokemon, Halo, and the Assassin's Creed dude.

I'm hopeful that the girlfriend you bought that ring from Jared's for was not one of them.... :o
"Arwen, my dear, here is a token of my devotion..."
-
You sir, just won the internet.
-
HAHAHAHAHA!!! That was incredible.
-
I wish the ones here were more like the ones in Canada (never thought I'd say that), since I hear they still carry older stuff (N64-era, maybe even older)
-
Is Minnesota part of Canada? Sure seems like it to me :)

that's the thing wth gamestop
you just can't go in gamestop, purchase games and not expect them to have flaws.
gamestop has to be the worst video game store and the very worst part of it is: it advertises -_-
-
There's a used video game store about a half hour drive from me. They had a surprisingly large amount of NES, Genesis, Atari, and other archaic stuff (along with plenty of new stuff). It made me wish I played video games.
-
Yea, my brother found a place where they sell every kind of game system and games for the systems....I want to work there...

what are these so-called flaws? because we dont sell old-gen used games? so? are you going to complain because we dont sell redemption cards or ham sandwiches either?
yes, gamestop is the worse video game store, despite the fact we're the worlds top-selling videogame retailer.
-
you work at a gamestop?
i pity you, dude.

It made me wish I played video games.
Give in to your anger..... :maul:

I don't think it's worth getting a TV, console, and games, when I already have a DS I barely use. I'm a board/card game man, with the exception of a couple computer games (Heroes of Might & Magic, StepMania, Pocket Tanks, and the occasional web game, for the most part). I could go into more detail, but it'd be a total derail.

And that never happens around here....
-
I've caused or encouraged my fair share of derails, for sure, but I'm not feeling it right now.
Except for the fact that this is now talking about derails than video game stores' game selections.
Ngaaaah.

There are plenty of second-hand stores in key market areas. I know in Virginia Beach I used to shop at two different stores that sold NES, SNES and the like. Gamestop has decided that is not the route they want to take. So be it. Their method seems to be working since they are
the worlds top-selling videogame retailer.

I think e-bay is probably the worlds #1 seller of video games... ...

That's why he said "retailer." ;)

Heroes is the best computer game of ALL TIME. Glad someone besides me plays it.

Turn-based strategy gets no respect
-
Agreed, even though HoMM5 is perhaps the most balanced and most enjoyable multiplayer game I've ever played, not counting WC3.
-
We should play Duel Mode sometime. It gets old playing that against the computer.
-
what the flip does that have to do with gamestop anyway?

Fire Emblem??!!

That's what I'm currently playing. Arena abuse ftw!

Hopefully Shadow Dragon, or else Arena Abuse = :(

The reason that gamestop is so popular is because there are not many other stores that sell games. If there are, like gamexchange, there not any good compared too gamestop. Another good thing is that you can get the games cheaper than newly bought. They should make a gamestop where they have all the system/ games and they will never stop selling them. That way there will be a comstemer satisfaction. Not alot of them but just a few in popular areas of most states.

I'm really enjoying not having that around in Radiant Dawn...

Just to take a "short cut" for a bit, which Heroes Of Might And Magic was your favorite?

That's a toughie. I have no experience with I, and only a little with II (which I know many say is the best). I've had many many great hours with III; it's got great atmosphere, and it was just plain a lot of fun. Comparing it to V, though, it has some balance issues. Morale and luck are very strong and ultimately random, getting your Hero to act whenever you want is too good, and it is purely terrible to get Eagle Eye. V is much more balanced in my opinion, and has a spiffy skill system, although it is not without its flaws: I enjoy the atmosphere less, it was unbearably full of bugs on release (patches and expansions have helped, but it's still buggy), it has painfully slow AI turns, and (I know this is true with most games in the series) the AI simultaneously cheats and does stupid things. V also has the fun Duel Mode, letting you do just a single big battle with preconstructed Heroes/armies. And then there was IV. I was part of the <0.04% of Heroes III fans that liked Heroes IV. A different game for sure, but it still had the atmosphere and basic structure I loved. Some things were just plain wrong (every serious Hero needed the skill Combat, at some point Heroes are just ridiculous in battle, etc.), but I had plenty of fun playing it. It's been a while and I didn't play it as long as III or as recently as V, so I can't give a great assessment of it.
It's between III and V for me. I'll give it to V for balance and Duel Mode, but III wins hands-down in atmosphere and raw fun I've had.

HoMM was life-changing. I think I'll have to give it bonus points just because it was the first (like I give Warcraft bonus points, even though II and III were successively much better). But ultimately, it was a very small game.
HoMM II was great, and fairly well balanced, but still suffers from being dated. Having played it again recently, I enjoyed it, but it's kind of like going back to RTS games that don't allow you to queue unit production.
HoMM III was astronomical in fun factor. The story line was interesting, the atmosphere was absorbing, the gameplay was tight, and the scoring was epic. This one will have to get my pick for overall favorite. If you can get your hands on it, it's still fun and not remotely dated and will likely be so for years to come. (Then again, I still enjoy some DOS MPS games so salt, grain and all that)
HoMM IV was a bowel movement. After just a few levels, your Heroes become invincible and can take down entire armies by themselves. The graphics are goofy, the towns claustrophobic, the gameplay alternately rushed and painfully slow, the campaigns stupid, and the atmosphere two-dimensional.
HoMM V gets my pick for sheer gameplay, especially in multiplayer (and doubly-especially if you have all the expansions). After fixing the Necromancer balance issues in a patch, I have zero complaints about the balance and the gameplay. But it just failed to suck me into its world like III did, and while the new graphic style was flashy, it was also a little soulless. All in all a fantastic game, and much better gameplay than any of the others, but I still enjoy III more as a whole.
