I don't know whether to think that's rediculous, awesome, lame, or an insult to queen.

From what I've heard, there are programs that will turn a song into a Mario level like this, so my guess is that the person who created this video wasn't the one who made the Mario level. Granted, you're right in that somebody did make the converting tool and whoever created this video had to turn a song into a format acceptable to the converter and so on and so on, but I was a little less impressed when I learned about the tool.
-
I'm impressed that such a tool exists. I could easily see a song being converted into a set of sounds from the mario game no problem, but to actually be able to come up with a scenario level to make that happen? That's pretty sweet.
Art has certainly progressed in the last 500 years. It used to be that a painting of a manly-looking woman (womanly-looking man?--whatever you'd call the Mona Lisa) could become one of the most famous pieces of art in the world. Nowadays, you can make something like this, and hardly anyone notices.
-
im not exactly sure if theres a program that will automatically design a level based on any music piece. i've heard alot of auto-marios, and some are just horrible, and some are just stellar (like this one).
-
That was pretty awesome...

Surely you're not calling this art? Art requires talent and vision. Making an auto-Mario program requires only a knowledge of coding. Anyone who understands it can do it. For real art, however, knowing the theory isn't enough. Tapping keys in your office chair with a hot pocket and red bull nearby is a lot lot lot lot easier than wielding brush and tincture upside-down on a huge scaffold, racing against the clock of the drying plaster.

This. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this stuff ISN'T art, but the original masterpieces still deserved to be called masterpieces. However, Prof is kinda comparing apples to oranges, as neither is similar in almost any way.

i...didnt say it was art...?

Oops. My mistake.

Okay, I was mostly going for comedic effect. Sorry to offend the artists/art-fanatics on the boards. And that has got to be the first time I've been called Al.

No offense taken. :)

My mistake. You'd be surprised how many people I have to deal with on a daily basis would make your post, but seriously.
Reading it in the light it was intended, lul.
