Play some rounds with Smokey, he's a good teacher for this game.

The most important thing to learn is that the game is not about kills. Farm minions at the start for gold and push a little bit if you can. Mid game is where the kills start coming. If you're the tank then assists are better than kills.

I have gotten 40+ assists with nunu in one game...
