Title: Arioch and Nebushasban strategy? Newbie question
Post by: stefferweffer on July 09, 2010, 02:22:24 PM
Again, since I just started playing Type 2, I wondered about using these guys to automatically thwart a rescue attempt, because of the "Rescuer's choice" rule.

1)  Could Arioch use his ability, get rid of the lost soul they "called" and thus have a successful block?
2)  Could Nebushasban use his ability, switch the lost soul they "called" for another one in opponent's territory, and thus have a successful block?
3)  If Nebushasban uses his ability, but switches for the same type of lost soul (i.e. my "female only" for your "female only"), is the block still successful, since it is not technically the same lost soul the rescuer chose?
4)  Are there Crimson defenses in Type 2 built around these two EC's abilities?  If so, how many of each in a deck is a good number?

Thanks!

1. yes only if they don't have a prophet of course
2. it depends if you switch it with a LS they don't have access to(female or N.T.) then you can die and it is successful if you switch for any LS they have access to the rescue switches to that soul
3. no(see 2)
4. not especially lots of people play prophets for Arioch. I love Babby's my self and I use 3 Nebushasban's for a basic auto-block if they have no access.
hope this helps

Thank you, but I don't understand the answer to number 2 (for Type 2 play).  Don't the rules say that if the lost soul they chose becomes unavailable to them that they don't get the lost soul?  It seems to me whether they have access to that lost soul or not is irrelevant.  They're not choosing the lost soul's "location" right?  Aren't they choosing that particular lost soul?

It was ruled that if you switched mid rescue (with rescuer's choice) they go after the one you switched for, so it can work if you get a NT/Female/*4 assuming they don't have access to them.  The reason being that it would be ridiculous, I think, but basically because you are switching them so the fact that you target them switches or something like that.

Correct. It was made that way when Nebushasban came out. Since you can have up to five of him in a deck, we didn't want essentially another auto-block character used five times. It would be like Uzzah on steroids.
