My friend has come back to Redemption after a decade hiatus. He used to have a powerful blue offense so he wants to stick with blue ( he knows thegame has changed but he still wants a blue offense). Since he's going to buy his own cards (finally some one in my playgroup with money :p), I will direct him to the three Genesis tins (though he'll just buy the ten cards and not the actual tins). My question is, with the evil cards he will receive with his Genesis cards, which defense should he use (considering I have a very limited supply of TeP and Di cards and I'm trying not to have him buy too much at once)

I would go your average speed/stall/stand alone defense.

There are 4 Genesis tins:
FooF IV, FooF X (2007) [brown Israelite/gray Emperors]
RoA XIV (2008) [black & orange Greek]
FooF XXII (2011) [gold Egyptians]
They all contains cards that are pretty important for a Genesis offense, so if he can afford them I suggest getting all of them. That will give him an an Uzzah (from brown) and two solid options for a defense. Both the gray Emperors and the gold Egyptians are a solid choice. Most players will probably tell you to go with the gold because that's the newest thing, but either one will work well.

From the tins, I would suggest to enhance the new Egyptian defense (the latest Genesis tin). Yellow evil cards (especially Egyptians) are pretty easy to pick up and it is a decent defense too.

I had an Egyptian defense before ( after ROA came out) and the one tournament I used it at, I didn't win a single game. Does the new set improve them that much?

When paired with Genesis it does. It gives some nice banding, drawing, and soul generation, and is generally good for a couple blocks, especially when used with A Slave, Gomer, and Uzzah.

It has a LOT more speed now, which will help you win games. There's also a few nice blocks with Failed Objective, Wonders Forgotten and Evil Spirit (Now that everyone is using OT)

Evil Spirit is still not a good choice. I'd rather put in Swift Horses than that.

It's still a nice card. I was only listing battlewinners, Chariots should be in too, unless you're going for a tiny defense.
