Title: What defense is best suited to handle silver?
Post by: bmc25 on June 04, 2014, 09:07:44 PM
What defense is best suited to handle a silver offense? It seems like every deck is splashing silver offense, so I am looking for the defense that best stops a silver offense.

I have wondered that before as well...and the best I could think of is a stall defense that harmed itself to avoid initiative.

To my knowledge, a defense really can't go head to head with Silver.

Orange seems to be best able to go toe to toe against Silver.

Echo the sentiment about defenses not intended to fight the enemy.  CBN banding is very effective since a lot of silver is FBTN, but getting up to just under their strength and playing end-the-battle cards are the best way to handle Silver.  That or soul manipulation.

MJB, I think it probably has the best shot.  However, I feel it lacks battle winners.  I could be wrong.

The issue I see is that so many battle winners specify human and combine that with silver's ability to interrupt and life just gets difficult.

I used to have an angel hate T2 deck. The defense was orange and used Deceiving Spirit/Seven Sons to spam Oblivious and Angelic Rebellion.

My demons can blot out the sun. Seriously.

Orange is clearly the superior defense to handling Silver, in my opinion.  There are multiple CBP/CBN immunity/auto-win characters (Prince of Tyrus, Prince of the Air, Prince of Persia).  There is tons of banding, some of it CBP/CBN (Fallen Angel, Prince of Greece, Wandering Spirit, the dual-color demons, Spirit of Temptation, Panic Demon), which is pretty much only stopped by TSA (except CBP/CBN) and CWD (which happens to have great synergy with Silver).  Orange does lack good enhancements, but Silver is even worse, especially against Orange (recurrable Wandering Spirit/Panic Demon banding chains with GoH backup; also, Striking Herod only targets humans).  Orange at least can spam Worshipping Demons via Twice Afflicted.

Also, since a lot of Angels are big, Orange could easily manipulate the HoH + Wandering Spirit + Trembling Demon combo.
