Title: TGT in 2018?
Post by: Asahel24601 on July 16, 2018, 12:03:44 PM
So, I'm (hopefully) bringing a new player to N. Central Regionals this weekend, so I'm trying to make an easyish deck that'll still be somewhat competitive.

Cards in deck: 51

Souls: 7
Imitate
Lawless
Wicked
Darkness
Wanderer
Dull
Gain

Dominants: 7
Son of God
New Jerusalem
Angel of the Lord
Guardian of Your Souls (RoJ)
Falling Away (Wo)
Destruction of Nehushtan
Christian Martyr

Artifacts/Fortresses:4
You Will Remain
Covenant of Prayer
The Garden Tomb
Coliseum

Dual Alignment Cards: 2
Orpah Departs
Fifth Seal/Justice Seekers

Heroes: 9
Polycarp
Music Leaders
Angel from the Sun
Mary, Mother of James
Salome
Joanna
Mary Magdalene
The Woman with Child
Susanna

Good Enhancements: 6
Overcome!
"He is Risen"
Consider the Lilies
No Need for Spices
Magnificat
Love Righteousness

Evil Characters: 9
The Sanhedrin
Scribe
The Deceiver
Sabbath Breaker
Proud Pharisee
The Entrapping Pharisees
Emperor Vitellius
Emperor Domitian
The Chief Priests
High Priest Ananias

Evil Enhancements: 7
Idol Worship
Balaam's Teaching
Seize Him!
Plot to Kill
Balaam's Disobedience
Arrest in Jerusalem
Pretension

Reserve: 10
Golden Calf
Overtaken
John, the Revelator
Justin Martyr
Blood of the Lamb
Word of their Testimony
Resurrection of the Martyrs
Foreign Wives
The Plotting Pharisees
Temple Guard

Edit 1.1: Cut Fire Foxes and added Ananias to the main deck, put Plotting in reserve as Guardian suggested. Cut Seventh Bowl for Sabbath Breaker, as speed is going to be important and giving the defense a little more is always good. I added Overtaken to the reserve instead of Joy. It can be grabbed by Idol Worship, and a CBN Domitian or Ananias can be potential game swings.

I love the inclusion of Coliseum, but it doesn't play nicely with Fire Foxes. I would cut Fire Foxes, move HP Ananias to the main deck and maybe add Plotting Pharisees to Reserve.

If one Sabbath Breaker is good, 2 might be better. It's legal to run both the old and new version in the same deck since they have different art.

Are... are you serious?  :o

Not sure how I feel about that if you are. Does that mean I can run two DoUs in T1, since they have different art?

I thought he was joking as well but it is a generic character with unique art and that's what allows the 1/3 sadducees to work. I feel like there might need to be a rule change since this muddles the purpose of LRs.

Unfortunately no. The REG provides an exception for Generic Characters of the same brigade and name because of cards like Pharisees, Sadducees, and Elders of Jerusalem

He's not joking. It is tournament legal to play both Sabbath Breakers. This was unintentional on our part and did not realize until after printing. We have no intentions at the current time to change the rule.

This only applies to Sabbath Breaker and Spy. New art was used for both and the rules allow for multiple copies of a generic character if they have different art (like Sadducees and Pharisees). We didn't realize this until it was too late but I'm not sure we would have done anything different. The rules don't allow for multiple Enhancements even if the art is different so you can't run 2 copies of DoU.

Welp, that's one* UR that just got a whole lot more valuable.

*well, two, but honestly is it worth running two Spies?

You're asking the wrong question...the better question: is it worth running 8 Spy?  8)

When you can only run four Warrior's Spears? ::)

Back to the topic at hand, I'm not sure Gain is necessary here - everything in reserve is already accessible. I might go with a Crowds instead.
Balaam's Disobedience is fantastic, but has anti-synergy with Coliseum. Probably actually still worth keeping, between how good it is (especially with Sabbath Breaker) and how popular Coliseum will be as a Woes target.
Also, I think Grail is great with TGT to help ensure that the ignore works.
