Title: Magicians defense standards?
Post by: jbeers285 on November 02, 2015, 05:09:29 PM
I'm curious to see what people would include in this now.

Feel free to list anything you think is viable in a magician defense.

The Judean Mediums is a must.  You can band to a Magician (or Demon) and make their ability CBN yes please!

User of Curious Arts is obviously fun due to you being able to splash some Orange in and them being able to use it.

Damsel is an awesome speed card!

Magic Charms is just to easy to use not to include it.

Enchanter banded to Judean Medium is a killer!

Balaam is awesome if you run a Covenant with Death and/or Confusion of Mind, because they don't stop him but they can stop everything else!

Divination is a nice speed boost for them, plus you can under-deck some lost souls.

Wizard and Pride of Simon are nice to get some of your useful enhancements back, but right now most of the awesome enhancements for pale green are O.T.

Simon the Magician for the CBN, but with the N.T. boosts Peter, John or Philip will probably be used along the way.

Invoking Terror is great for your Multi-color Magician both in and outside of battle.

King Manasseh is awesome for the band and you could always use his ability as a battle winner if needed.

Magician's Snakes is very good.

Plus all of these guys can play Scattered!

I'll append Crashfach's post, since there's so much good content in it.

Don't forget two of the best battlewinners in the game:  Forgotten History and Death of Unrighteous.

Astrologers and Egyptian Magicians can pull Invoking Terror off the bottom of your deck, and each gives a "bonus" when they do.  Also great for initiative.

EM also bands to Foreign Wives and The Egyptian Rebel, two powerful evil characters that are in a lot of decks.

Elymas the Sorceror protects all evil characters from discard, CBI.  This is a very underrated ability, and can allow discardless shuffles with Death of Unrighteous.  He can also get Invoking Terror back from the bottom of your deck.

Mist could also be very useful in a Magicians deck.  Are there any other TC recursion EEs in the game?  This can get back Scattered, Forgotten History, Death of Unrighteous, or even one of your dead magicians.

A few divergences from Crashfach's post:

I'm not as big of a fan of Users of Curious Arts.  Being able to play 3 evil brigades is awesome, but the other Magicians have such great abilities that don't require EEs to be great, so this one almost always misses the cut for me.  Plus he can't abuse Invoking Terror like most other Magicians.

Magician's Snakes is great, but it always transfers initiative and is interruptable, so for me, it normally doesn't make the cut.  Scattered, FH, and DoU can almost always be CBN/CBI if used properly.

AGreed! About STM, I like using the Samaria sites for the site lock and protect.  He might even be a good add to the old school Evil Kings defense~!
