Title: Just how good is Mayhem?
Post by: The Guardian on March 03, 2010, 10:08:44 PM
Haven't used Mayhem very much in either T1 or T2. Looking for some thoughts and opinions on its inclusion in different types of decks. (T1, T2, 2P, MP)

May is one of the most game changing dominants and probably my favorite card from TexP.  I've seen it have a large enough impact on several games that, if it's timed right, I believe it has the potential to win/lose a game for someone.

Here are a few examples of ways it can be used:

1) As an AotL
2) As a CM
3) As a Harvest Time
4) To gain a large card advantage
5) To undo several turns worth of setup by an opponent
6) To "undo" a search

I could keep going.  Mayhem is amazing.

I can certifiably vouch that I have lost with my previously undefeated deck because of this sole reason:  a well-timed Mayhem.

The card is both awesome and annoying at the same time.*

*depends on the point of view...if you have played it or your opponent.

It's also an absolute must in Abom decks.

Mayhem is probably my third or fourth least favorite card in the set ;) On account of its brokenness when played right. Dumping your entire hand, then dropping it after an opponents draw essentially makes it the best speed card in the game. Additionally I just don't like it because it never seems to work for me, nearly as well as for my opponents ;) I can't count the times I've had it dropped on my turn one, after they go first and empty thier hand. Its basically a 12 card swing in thier favor, which is huge in a card game.

Could interrupt a combo deck in Type 2

It also works well to gain an 11 to 6 card advantage 1st turn in t1.

The card's chances to be game-changing here in the NW are between slim and none, and slim just jumped out of an airplane.

 ;)

I love mayhem but it didn't fit well in my newest deck so I switched it for grapes. In my main deck I have  worked on for months, it is a great card. I use it like the wayt everybody lists. Just have to know when is the key XD

And don't underestimate the effect of the simple threat of Mayhem.  If I know my opponent has a Mayhem in his deck, I am a lot more likely to put cards in play when I get them (to minimize the negative card count swing), but that exposes my cards to other effects.  This effect makes Mayhem doubly useful in Abom decks.

Bad Gabe NO getting back Mayhem for you. Your right bryon about just knowing that someone has a mayhem and weather you should play your cards or not

Mayhem has literally saved me the game on a few occasions. Someone was coming for their last LS in a 4-4 game. I had no D, but I played Mayhem and drew the 2-liner. Gave them half, and atttacked ftw on my next turn.

With that STAMP pulls off the rare "double-header" (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=12349.msg312918#msg312918) :)

I say yes regardless of my draw. Its fun.

Yeah, I think my psychological manipulation has made Mayhem ultimately benefit me more than it has hurt me. The one time I remember when it really hurt me was at a local tournament (I think shortly after I got the card) in a game against JSB23, when I was playing a very fragile combo deck and I had just drawn a hand that was perfect to set myself up, and so I made some sort of noise which my opponent rightfully interpreted as "YES, this is just what I wanted!" and played Mayhem, which I hated him for. :P
