Title: How many different brigade colors in a type 1 deck?
Post by: Adevine on June 19, 2017, 12:32:12 PM
For a typical type 1 deck what is a good amount of different brigade colors?

it depends on the offense your using, some will only use 1, other will use many. in general you just want cards that work together, just one offensive theme and 1 defensive theme, rather that running multiple different strategies.

In general I prefer to use three brigades or fewer because of the many defensive cards that work better when the opponent has multiple good brigades (Emperor Vitellius, Provoked, Broken Covenant, Punisher LS).

However, some deck strategies are strongest when you have an offense with 5 or 6 different brigades despite the potential drawbacks.

Perfect example of lots of brigades is an armor of God offense :)

When using silver as support for a human offense and you have at least one multi color hero (Moses, Ezekiel, Samuel, etc.) it's pretty easy to get 3-4 brigades on an offense. My Current deck has 5 good brigades between 2 silver support angels, Samuel (green/gold) and David, the Shepherd(purple/red.

It has been tough to run a single brigade offence that is good enough to compete with the elite spread offences that are out there.

With that being said, I think that the new sets have made it a little easier.

Clay, Silver (Revelation angels), White (The Garden Tomb) and Purple (Disciples / The Garden Tomb) all have the potential to be used on their own.

Personally, I always use more than one brigade. I like the spread offenses, taking the best of the best and making them work together has proven to be the best over the last few years.

I think there will be more mono-offenses than ever before this year. But if I was a betting man, I would bet that none of them make top cut at nats.

I'd pick a theme (The Garden Tomb Disciples, Clay, The Garden Tomb Ladies, Moses, Martyrs, Rev Angels, The Throne of David, Priests, Speed, Prophets, Job) and build from there not worrying too much about the number of brigades.

White is a really good Mono / dual brigade offense just using things like WWC and Music leaders and a few martyrs.

It's almost impossible to be pure now. I don't recommend building an offense by starting with a brigade, but a strategy.

Start with the strategy and then at the end evaluate if you can "trim" any brigades. For example, if you have a Hero that isn't really one of your strongest options, but it adds an additional brigade try looking for a different Hero with brigades you already have.

Obviously you're not going to cut David the Shepherd from a Purple Royalty/Throne deck because everyone else is Purple and he also has Red, but perhaps in a Blue Genesis deck you might cut Abram's Army (Blue/Red Hero) if that isn't one of your main attacking options.
