Does anyone know what the best defensive strategy is to pair with a GT (strictly white NT female) offense, in a deck?
-
Standalone so you don't help the opponent out much?
Anything speed related is good.
-
Thanks. Can you list specific cards for me?
-
Uzzah
The Amalekites' Slave
King of Tyrus
Prince of this World (sometimes)
Damsel w/ Spirit of Divination
King Manasseh
Magic Charms
Sabbath Breaker
Seven Sons of Sceva (for KoT/PotW reuse if desired)
Trembling Demon (with Holy of Holies to make him CBI)
Those are most of the typical stand-alone-type defensive cards.
-
Ok, thank you! I was thinking of going phillies, but do you think this standalone strategy is better?
-
I prefer orange with a white NT female offense. That's what I used at Nats 2010 and tied for 2nd (4th overall) so I know it works well.
-
In theory, I'd say multicolor standalone works best, since you have less chance of helping your opponent by playing your ECs. An uncommon brigade like Orange might also work well, though. Test all possibilities and see what works best for you.
-
Orange is amazing with TGT. You can throw demons on the bottom with susanna and get em back out and you can throw in bronze laver for more speed. Splash it with phillies and you all set.

throw in Plot and maybe a Gomer

I think another good defense this year would be Pharisees. They are fast and with the new set not getting any Gray, there won't be much of it around this year.

+1 Phars would be a good choice. they are small and fast and have some good battle winners like Gold Shield, Just a Hireling, Balaam's Disobediance, and more. They also have one the best ECs in game IMHO, Proud Pharisee.

FTFY. PP is awesome when converted.

You should ask CountFount about that.
-
Another really nice thing about Pharisees is, since you are potentially going to pair it with NT Women, then just throw in Herod's Temple & it will help both your offense & defense!
-
Ok, so you think pharisees stand a chance in a small defense because I used to play with them but I pulled them because I felt that they were weak. I played with Phillistines for a while, which was good, but I'm trying brown out now and it's iffy.
-
Phars are pretty weak, but they're fast, and can pull off the ninja blocks like no one's business.
-
ninja blocks? niiice! do you feel they are better than phillistines? or what about brown with gomer, uzzah, plot, etc? or magicians?
-
Orange sounds entriguing, not something I've considered. How would you set up a good orange defense with approx. 8 or 10 cards?
-

It all depends on what you're going for. Phillies can negate, negate, negate (plus Goliath), whereas Phars have more variety.
-
Phars also have a protect fort, so they dont get wiped out by AoCP and things like that (like Philies would). It can also hold Writ.
If you want orange though, maybe something like this...
Arts
Holy of Holies
Forts
Gates of Hell
ECs
KoT
Wandering Spirit
spirit of Temptation
Trembling Demon
Damsel
Prince of this World
EEs
Sinning Hand
Destructive Sin
Pride before Calamity
Suicidal Swine Stampede
That's 12 cards, so Orange might be better slightly bigger. It could be splashed with Pale green (magicians most likely), brown, or Phillies (don't know how well they'd work, but some people recommend them).
-
Arts
Holy of Holies
Forts
Gates of @#!*%
ECs
KoT
Wandering Spirit
spirit of Temptation
Trembling Demon
Damsel (not really necessary) I would switch it with SWS
Prince of this World
Fallen Angel
Gomer
7 sons of Sceva
EEs
Sinning Hand Deafening Spirit
Destructive Sin
Pride before Calamity Worshipping Demons
Suicidal Swine Stampede (Optional I personally don't like it with this kind of defense)
Worst than the First
That is usually the defense I use when I pair it with TGT.
-
Sinning Hand The negating Enhancement that is demon (Can't remember its name but is pretty awesome)
Deafening Spirit
-
Arts
Holy of Holies
Forts
Gates of @#!*%
ECs
KoT
Wandering Spirit
spirit of Temptation
Trembling Demon
Damsel (not really necessary) I would switch it with SSS
Prince of this World
Fallen Angel
Gomer
7 sons of Sceva
EEs
Sinning Hand Deafening Spirit
Destructive Sin
Pride before Calamity Worshipping Demons
Suicidal Swine Stampede (Optional I personally don't like it with this kind of defense)

Forgot about a couple of those, I typed it past 9:00 pm, so I'm not really surprised lol. Anyway, SSS is a great card imo, you'll need an idol or Evil altar for Worshipping demons, and sinning hand is really annoying, but so is defeaning spirit so either one.
-
Even without an alter worshiping demons is a 0/3 CBN EtB enhancement
-
Awesome! Thanks guys! Does anyone think that Phillies can work with TGT?

This deck won T1 two player at Nats this year with TGT (small red splash) with Phillies. http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/complete-decks/nats-t1-2p-1st-place/

I'll check it out, thanks! :)
