Title: A Couple Friendly Reminders
Post by: Chronic Apathy on February 16, 2012, 09:41:16 PM
To those of you who give advice...
A handful of the people who regularly participate on this board have a habit of giving pretty limiting advice. Now I'm well aware that I am far and away the biggest culprit of this, but comments suggesting that someone scrap an entire theme or strategy tend to be ignored by the topic creators, and thus, I'm officially discouraging them. One comment amidst advice that pertains specifically to the deck at hand is fine, but when the sum of your post is "do something else," it's not conductive to what this board is really about. If the vast majority of your comments in a post aren't dealing with the theme, strategy, or deck that the topic creator is requesting help with, don't make that post. Furthermore, if you do follow these guidelines and the topic creator decides to not use your advice, don't take it personally. Everyone has their own way of doing things, and graciously accepting it when someone doesn't listen to us, as hard as it is, is the best way to keep this board running smoothly. Now again, I'm as guilty of this as anyone, but I'm also not the only one. In the meantime, keep doing what you're doing; this board is a good chunk of the reason I stuck around so long, and I've never been more invested in the community and the game than I am right now.

To those of you who request advice...
We have some of the best players in the game regularly participate in this board, and a lot of us are extremely eager to give advice to other members, whether they be brand new players or players who have been around for years. Please keep that in mind when looking at the advice given, because even when some of it goes against your instinct or style, sometimes it really is the best advice you'll give. When you simply disregard the advice that you asked for, nobody benefits. I'm not saying you absolutely have to listen to every piece of advice given, or even any piece of advice given, but you'll never be able to reach your full potential as a player unless you open yourself up to experiment with different ideas and styles, even if they go against what you usually play. For the first three years I played Redemption, I played one strategy for a whole year, and I was never as good a player as I could have been. These days I experiment with all sorts of different decks, both common ones and uncommon ones, I'm a better player and deckbuilder for it.

To everyone...
We're all here to have fun, so even if there are disagreements, keep that in mind. How we interact on this board does reflect on the community as a whole, because guests do see what we post, so remember to reflect Jesus in the way you post, to give the name of Redemption and more importantly the name of God the respect they both deserve.

For people posting decks please make sure you use a layout similar to how RTS spits out deck lists. It is much easier on the eyes to see the decks sorted by type then color instead of type only.

Thanks!
