Title: Trade Reference the way I can read and understand them.
Post by: soul seeker on January 15, 2010, 03:27:34 PM
Also, I like to know someone's experience by the number of successful trades.  My references FWIW..if you trust me:  Soul Seeker   4+
What makes for a good trade?  3 criteria is involved:
               1.  Communication:  did they communicate well what the condition of the card is.
               2.  Speed (not of Post Service) but of mailing date (which is postmarked)
               3.  How a card is packaged.  Was it in a bubble wrapper or hard case -or- was it just stuck in the envelope at the mercy of the sorting machines?
These aren't my personal ratings.  You get 1+ for every successful trade and positive feedback.  The Asterisks are for every negative feedback.
This is the list I have compiled from the other thread of what has been posted within the last year (2009 until now) in alphabetical order by board name.

Jon, I really like this.  Would you be willing to keep updating this list if traders send their reports to you?

Ok, I think we should sticky this and you should probably change the title to something more general or inclusive.  Also it should be highlighted that negative (or positive) references should be pmed (or posted here if you preffer) and should include specific reasons why the trade was good or bad.  I would love to be able to pop over here and see a snapshot of someones reputation.

I also think we should consider some way of having negative feedback cycle off after a while. ( like say one year)  After all we are a people of grace and it is entirely possible for a person to "mature" in the way they handle trades but pay for a few "youthful indiscretions"

Possibly something like

Good/Bad

Matt Archibald (2/1) Last year = 1/1/09, 2/4/09     - 3/7/09

After a year the positive and negative would cycle off but the runnign total could still give a lifetime snapshot of where they have been and the dates after that can give snapshot of where they are currently.

One suggestion: I would organize the list even further by putting those with the most good reports at the top of the list.
that is a good suggestion and I've seen it that way.
The only thing is that it will require a lot of shuffling when trade references are made...
Plus if someone requests a trade with you then you can find their board name alphabetically; which I feel is quicker.

I agree with crust pope (mainly because (to my knowledge) those two bad points of mine had to have been from when I was twelve from silence matrix and Gabe because I don't rember ever haveing anything bad occur recently.......recently= past 1 1/2 yr

I have to give a -1 for Mr. Hiatus for a poor trade as of late that does not need to go into detail.

Hope this helps your records

This is a Highly inaccurate system! it does not hold up to those of us who have been absent from the boards in the last mounths and also who preform trade through the mail. i have had more then enough problems in my time trading here but those few intences do not even come close to out weighing the number off succsessful trades i have had here.

First -1: happened about a year after joining the boards, i got my envolpes mixed up and sent 2 trades to the wrong person. all they did to fix it was send them to each other and theen came to me saying i didnt do anything  to fix a problem i didn't know about.

Second -1: I made the grave misstake of using regular envolpes at the start and what do you know the post office shreaded one. well merphy's law would state that is it a valuable card. but why did it have to be a FSP...thus guy complained even when i did send his cards back in the shape they got to me.

those who have traded with me in tthe past and have a ferm belief in my worthyness to be moved up i will be sure to post a message about our trade the next time we have one.

Thank you,
Vasbear (Alex)

i agree some people get mad at the simplelest things

Simple to you because they weren't your cards or money. Since you don't know the whole story in any of the cases, your post is pointless and presumptuous.

see why YMT and crustpope Tried to boil tracer's hide.

Tracer's policy was unknown publicly when I posted. He made a mistake and admitted it, which is why I posted a resolution. Your post here only opens a wound unnecessarily.

and i have no idea about mr. hiatus got a -1

Since you have no idea, you have no business posting this.

--------------------------------

Regarding Vasbear's post, getting cards lost in the mail or shredded in the automated machines happens. But when the same thing happens three times in three different trades over the course of a year, then I have reason to be suspect. The fact that the last one was an FSP in a trade for over $150 worth of cards makes it unacceptable. If sending cards in a white envelope fails the first two times, then don't keep sending them in white envelopes.

I do not understand where you pull the three times in one year all iin different trades from? i have only ever had one come back and one get lost (the rest must have made it through i myself not informed).

You may not remember, since they were a while ago a this point. Our first trade that got "lost in the mail," you sent a "new set of cards" to replace them (fortunately you had doubles of all of them). I had to wait almost a month, but I got the cards. I was hesitant to trade a second time, but I gave you the benefit of the doubt. This time the cards were "returned to sender." You had to "resend" them. Again, I had to wait almost a month for my cards. The third time came much later, and only because I desperately wanted the FSP promo. That time I did not send my cards right away as I had in the past. After a couple weeks, I PM'd you to see if you had sent the cards out, to which you said "Yes." Another week passed and you PM'd me to say that you had not seen my cards yet. At that time I told you that I had never sent them out because I was waiting for your FSP, considering what had happened the previous two times. Only after then, another week later, did I get the "FSP got lost in the mail" message.

I'm not sure why you posted in this thread that you had to send my cards back, since I never sent mine in the first place. Perhaps that was someone else?

Must haave been some one else but as you have said in your post that was in the past and even you gave me another chance, but the FSP i did trade to i remember gettng delayed, but i have held three, i still own one, i trade one to you and i lost one in the to the mail that hasn't arived to this day.

For the record, I never got the FSP. However, I do agree with you that it was in the past. My post (from back then) in the trade references thread simply said that I would not send my cards to you until I received yours first. I think our history would warrant that. With that said, if you agreed to those terms, then I would trade with you again. We all deserve a chance to "save face," so I will not argue that point.

DMM and I had a recent trade where his cards were sent very quickly and in great condition, and TDK purchased a card and sent the money very promptly as well. I just wanted to point them out here since they are both younger players without as much trading credibility yet, so I thought I would build it up.

(and add a -1 to me (Ccrustpope was dissatisfied with our trade although I swear I sent them in NM condition) just trying to stay honest)
I appreciate your honesty, but I'm going to let Matt make that call.

This is a Highly inaccurate system! it does not hold up to those of us who have been absent from the boards in the last mounths and also who preform trade through the mail.
Thank you,  Vasbear (Alex)
I appreciate your criticism, but I'm going to have to disagree.  This system is extremely accurate and is used on multiple trade sites efficiently & effectively.  Now, it may be true that some time has passed, but you have not traded in a while on the boards either.  Also, to your argument that it doesn't take into account your positive trades, but I can only update what people put on here (or what people put on the other thread when I first started this one--I went back through 2009 with most of the references.)
Ultimately, Crustpope is right.  You have to dig yourself out of the hole one trade at a time.  I will put an asterisk by those negatives trades marking them to be more than a year old.  However, on your part, you have to begin trading that ends in positive results. In fact, use this list yourself and send first to reputable traders, and they will respond here I'm sure.

Also, the threads have been marked and updated to this point.  :police:

EDIT:  1+ for NWJosh for a great trade!

This system is awful! What kind of a world do we live in when only some peoples' names are capitalized properly? This is an outrage! I'm calling my union rep...;)

Under threat of strike:  your rep worked it out because the "man" backed down and it's now fixed.   :P

I just had successful trades with the following people:

that one kid: New to the boards, but we made a good trade. It took a little longer than expected because of not enough postage, but I would chalk it up to inexperience that he's probably learned from than anything else. To make up for it, he sent me an extra card (a good one too), which was very appreciated. One of the cards had a small amount of wear on the top, so if you're really concerned about condition, maybe specify that. But the card was designed to be torn in half anyway, so I don't mind too much. Overall he gets a + 1 for good communication and overdelivering.

Ring Wraith: Cards came quickly and in good condition. + 1

TechnoEthicist: Waited until my card was received to send his, which I didn't mind, but my card was packaged well and in good condition. + 1

ReyZen: Also took awhile, I'm guessing because he waited until mine were received, but again, I didn't mind, and again, they were in good shape. + 1

Thanks all!

Just completed a good trade with BlazerCC.  Got his cards quickly and safely.  Hopefully everyone will give him a second chance when it comes to trading - he did everything in his power to be accommodating in our trade.  He sent first as I requested, he kept me updated when the cards didn't go out right away due to schoolwork, he didn't complain when I didn't send my side of the trade right away because I was out of town...  I look forward to trading with BlazerCC/Vasbear in the future!  :)

The online trade is probably what did it to you. Before I made my thread, I checked back a year's worth on another thread.  No offense intended...unfortunately I have to let people know of your slowness as reported by others.

I completed another good trade with Wings of Music!

I just completed a trade with Crustpope!  It went very well despite the time it took us to complete it!  (That is the nature of a trade involving over $500 worth of stuff!   )  He was very patient with me and gave me some great cards!

An update to my trade with mjwaree5/mjware6:

I did finally receive cards today. The envelope was postmarked June 19, which was 21 days ago. There were no rips or other markings on the envelope, and the address was written correctly. Be forewarned that the USPS is not as reliable as it used to be. I have made two trades in the past week that only took two days to ship, so it appears your chances are hit-or-miss.

Speaking of those other two trades, I would like to report awesome trades with BrianGabe and Captain Kirk.

I haven't really used this because I manage my own trade references on another thread but for the benefit of those that have bought and traded with me this year I'll post some names here.  All these transactions have been good.  I'm pleased to say that I have no negatives to report.  But I often require the other party to send first so that should be taken into consideration.  Names are listed once for each transaction we completed.

But I often require the other party to send first so that should be taken into consideration.

May I ask why this is?

Sure.  I have over 15 years experience buying/selling/trading online.  I have several dozen references from the boards and thousands from eBay to prove my trustworthiness.  In all my online trading the only time I've run into problems is when trading with inexperienced people and the occasional scammer.  Scamming is very rare in this community so there's not much risk there.  I minimize my risk by having inexperienced traders send first (completing a few trades does not equate experience).  I've avoided a lot of problems this way.  The reputation I've earned shows them that there's little to no risk on their part and typically nobody has any problem with this system.

As many can attest I usually trade pretty generously with them and make it worth their while.  I'm not saying I never make mistakes.  Occasionally I forget to add a card or send the wrong one but I always follow up by correcting the mistake, sometimes with extras to make up for the inconvenience.

big -1 to MKC and I'll explain

7 weeks ago (roughly) I traded him some cards for a ds lite game I sent the cards but I kept waiting and waiting for the game, after two weeks I pm'ed him and he said he had forgotten and would send it off so I waited another week 1/2 and pm'ed him again he had forgotten but promised to send that day, well that was about a week 1/2 / 2 weeks ago and I still have yet to recieve the game.

When I recieve the game I will remove the unrecieved status but I must keep the -1 it has to be one of the worst trades I've had

You get on the list when someone mentions you that is why it is a trade REFERENCE. I can't feasibly list all 1000 members nor do I want too. If you make a positive online trade or purchase encourage that person to say something about you here.  Then you will make the list.  The only person I've intentionally left off is myself and that is because it lacks accountability and thus integrity (even though I'm a great trader.)  It's not a slight against you...it's just that you must be referenced first.   :police:

These are all the trades/sales I have completed in order...

1. Alpho (sale)- great communication, fast transaction
------> http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=20581.0;msg=358026 (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=20581.0;msg=358026)

2. Crashfach2002 (sale/trade)- quick ship with good communication
------> http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=22704.0 (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=22704.0)

3. Lebronjamesfreak11 (trade)- cards came fast, but were NOT in the greatest shape. could have been packaged better, but i saw effort and they weren't terrible, so it's ok. the way that they were packaged actually put a crease in a couple of the cards, otherwise they looked good. It's something to make note of, but nothing that would deem this feedback "negative".

4. Hi123 (trade)- fast easy transaction *just a note, the cards were by no means in good condition. i asked him what condition they were in, and if i recall he never answered, so i take the blame for not finding out. They were all playable in sleeves except one of them* once again, something to be noted, but not something that deems this negative feedback.

5. Lebronjamesfreek11 (trade)- cards came in good shape

6. Stefferweffer (sale)- swift easy sale, recommended

7. NinjaDuck (sale/trade)- fast deal, good communication

8. EvanWho (sale)- great communication, recommended

Cpt.Jaeger: Very good trade.

1. He spent a lot of effort to show me (the noob) what cards I can get and what prices (he looked it all up on 3LG) and communicated well about the trade, including telling me how to properly package cards.

2. Took awhile because I needed to talk alot, and because he didn't mail his until he got mine, as I had no credentials whatsoever. He mailed it when he got it and i got it in time.

3. Was packaged neatly in thick cardboard, taped together, cards were in perfect shape.

4. My new cards are AWESOME

:police: List has been updated to this point.  :police:

@ Guardian:  though I can't reflect 1+ in trades...you get two big 1+ in coolness in my book.  1) stickying this thread  & 2) trying to help SomeKittens out.
I agree it's not like RDT to do that.

@ everyone:  the "use caution" thread is growing...I would advise you to check it before sending anything.  You are the ones who are helping each other.  I hope that this overall thread helps every trader to avoid (or at least be aware of) the potential frustrations of online trading.

Thanks for your participation.

@ hi123:  Guardian is right.  I will only add someone once they complete a successful, long-distance, online trade and get a 1+ response from who they traded with.  Otherwise, I would be adding 1200 members with almost zero adds.

EDIT FINALLY RESOLVED

very big - 1 for Isildur
He bought a card, never payed.

I sent it to him in mid-august, with the understanding he would pay me early september. Late September I PM'd him a couple times and he said he forgot. After a week, I finally forgot about it. Then a couple weeks ago I remembered, PM'd him, he responded, and I haven't heard from him since. I suppose there is a 1% chance that I missed it when it came in the mail, but I know he forgot multiple times with reminders for several weeks, and I know I didn't receive a check from him (check my bank statements for a deposit). I also keep a record of all my current trades/sales, and I never marked his complete, which I am very good about... While I am fairly certain he did not send it, it certainly doesn't help matters that he is unreachable.

EDIT- it was a signed NJ promo, price $25

Please add Ammian to the list, aka- Ian Vroon.

+ 1 Ammian

Just completed a very large trade with Ammian. He had great communication. He shipped right away, and in great condition. I would be happy to trade with him again, and would encourage others to trade with him as well.

Only downside to the trade was that after putting the cards in the mail, they took a whopping 18 days to reach me. However, that was completely out of Ammian's control. It was probably just due to the lengthier time it takes to ship via parcel post, and the holiday season.

We have an outstanding deal and he won't answer my pm's and he won't respond to me. He left out two cards on a trade and said he would ship it and he hasn't talked to me since. We have an outstanding deal and he won't answer my pm's and he won't respond to me. He left out two cards on a trade and said he would ship it and he hasn't talked to me since. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but to no avail...hopefully he'll see this and send me the cards or at least answer my pm's. I don't like to get shafted like this.

I am waiting on a card from Hi123 that he apparently sent out November 2nd. I just sent him my first PM regarding it (I'm fairly patient).

He told me that he was sending them out the next day. That was two weeks ago. I know he's been on all I really need is a reply for an update...but nothing.

I can't find his reference thread anywhere, though.  Could someone make one?

Thanks,

You can just use this one!  Most people check this one first and then might check a personal one.  I know I have completed a bunch of trades and most have posted replies here, but rarely do they post on my personal one.  Honestly if I trade with someone I post it here without even checking to see if they have a personal one, unless they tell me to post in that one!

I don't really differentiate between the two a whole lot, so it's kind of both though mostly for trading. A couple of negatives have came when someone has skipped out on payment.

Cpt. Jaeger is an amazing trader!  We worked out everything quite well, and he threw in some nice bonus cards.

His cards came wrapped so well it took me 15 minutes to open them!  He definitely takes secure packaging to the next level.  The package was so well-wrapped that I took pictures of it and posted them on facebook!

Yeah.  Jaeger does a good job of trading.

Actually, that is completely at the post office discretion. One may say it's okay, but if it is close, the next one may say it's not okay. This is especially true if it gets stuck in the automatic sorter of one but not the other, or if the second postal worker was having a bad day.  ;)

Sufficient packaging= a hard or padded covering on both sides of included cards, so that they cannot be dent or bent through the packaging

I've gotten many cards with only a piece of paper or soft plastic sleeve protecting cards in a normal envelope=/=sufficient

that's how I define it anyway.... ::)

Any chance you could explain the insufficient packaging?

You forgot to put a bow on it.

-------------------------------------

FTR, I agree with the Capt. that putting cards only in a soft playing sleeve is not sufficient. Also, if you are using the hard toploaders, make sure you tape the open end so that the card does not slide out. Just my two pesos.

4 cards in a sleeve with cards half slipped out hardly qualifies as sufficient in my opinion.

Honestly, I'm not sure if this is a positive or negative.  History shows it would be a positive, but you never know.  Right now it's not being counted.

Related to Cpt. Jaeger, he is gaining so many positives that I'm locking his color out.  I'm running out of board colors for him!  However, he will continue to get thumbs ups (until I run out of space there too and forced to do something different) and, of course, his positives.

Keep up the great positive trading everyone!

Not yet... Well, he did respond to one about a 18 days ago. (feb. 6) This is very unusual for him. I have traded with him four or five times before and they were all smooth.

Just remember that everyone gets busy or forgets to send cards sometime.  You should send several messages and make sure that they have plenty of opportunies to see your messages.  You should always give plenty of time before you question someones integrity.  I have a person who hasn't even contacted me since Sep. about a trade.  The only reason I'm not making a big deal about it, is that the cards on both sides of the trade aren't worth fussing over.  Just remember to give grace to people, especially when people have given grace to you!

- 1  for RTSmaniac.

I struckthrough this because RTSmaniac was able to PM me and he had a good reason for not sending his cards yet. Please do not minus him.

-Thanks!

Hey John, why is the Deist on the watch list?  He has no negatives, only a neutral.  I dont think that qualifies him as being on the "naughty" list.  also, how long are you going to leave Hiatus and RDT on that list?  you have people on the positive list with negatives listed who have recent positives?

I think that if there are any unresolved issues, I would want to know about them and I would not be likely to trade with them (or at least make them send first). If someone never sent a trade or purchase, then a few positives since then would not be good enough for me.

The problem with the RDT deal is it was a $100 purchase, not just cards in bad condition.

Hey Matt,
Good catch on Deist...I will move him on the next update.  Technically, the "use Caution" list isn't the naughty list.  It is more of a "you-may-want-to-consider-having-these-people-send-first" list.  Mr. Hiatus may get bumped up to the new/infrequent trade list.

As for RDT, he is still there because as far as I know.  The deal on page 19 with SomeKittens is still outstanding.  So YMT is correct to point out the "unresolved issues" aspect.  I figured people would want to know about those issues.  I like John (RDT) a lot, but when it comes to this list: I have to keep it impartially.  Unfortunately, the one issue with Some Kittens (again to my knowledge) was never resolved.

Can SomeKittens respond as to whether this was resolved? I would find it very disconcerting to know that a Moderator did not send the cards on a major purchase.

Kittens:

What address did you sent the initial set to?

Around the time that I resolved the trade with Uthminister, I was also in communication with you - This is the last PM that I have from you - It appears that I didn't save my outbox transactions, but I told you the address that I shipped too, and told you that I had another set ready to send if you confirmed the address. I never heard back from you at that point.

I still have that set ready to send, all I need is the confirmed address.

I think you need to give hi123 and myself a neutral or negative. I traded with him at the end of February and I haven't received my cards yet. I messaged him a few times and he claims that he sent them and also hasn't received the upcs that i sent out(i traded upcs for cards) I've never had any problem with any cards i've sent out before or with receiving any from anyone so i'm not really sure what to do about this I figured i would post something here. I also am going to pm hi123 to let him know i posted this.

I will not make it a negative just yet, because there have been times in the past where the post office has been slow.  I will make note beside both your names that there is an issue.  If it is resolved and it turns out to be the post office then the note can be deleted.

big -1 to MKC and I'll explain

7 weeks ago (roughly) I traded him some cards for a ds lite game I sent the cards but I kept waiting and waiting for the game, after two weeks I pm'ed him and he said he had forgotten and would send it off so I waited another week 1/2 and pm'ed him again he had forgotten but promised to send that day, well that was about a week 1/2 / 2 weeks ago and I still have yet to recieve the game.

When I recieve the game I will remove the unrecieved status but I must keep the -1 it has to be one of the worst trades I've had

Has this ever been resolved?

Overall a good deal, and I am a satisfied customer, but it should be noted that once of the cards I bought, Uzzah, that was supposed to be NM-M had a very noticeable bend down the side. For $3 it definitely should have been NM. This is positive feedback, since it was overall a great deal and I am satisfied :)

The fault is mine.  Permissions are now properly set for feedback.

Second, how does it account for feedback already left?
I kind of feel the method in place works well enough...

If people prefer to leave things as they are, I can remove the mod just as easily as it was added.  If people want the system, I will add each of the existing trade references to people's profiles by hand, if that would help facilitate the transition.  I just thought you guys could benefit from a built in tool that lets you seem someone's trade "score" at any time and read all the references you want in their profile, and not have to deal with an entire sub-board with three sticky topics and a couple pages of reference threads and hoping that Jonathon is both up-to-date and accurate with his count totals (I'm not diminishing his work; in fact, I'm pointing out the difficulty of what he does to maintain things).
Title: Re: Trade Reference the way I can read and understand them.
Post by: Ken4Christ4ever on May 13, 2011, 01:44:11 PM
I'm still not able to submit feedback, unless it's not intuitive. (I clicked on the "Submit feedback for..." link after clicking the number next to "Trade Count".

I think it's a great idea, though, and if people want to leave details, they can leave them in the individual threads like they are right now. This new mod would allow us to forego the thread we're in right now!

What are people's thoughts about transferring the information from here into the new system and using that instead? It wouldn't take a ton of time to transfer just the numbers without the comments, so I would be willing to do that, and then people could leave comments with their feedback in the new system moving forward. We could leave this thread and lock it so that it serves as a reference for the feedback that would be in the new system without comments.

Thoughts?

I'm all for it. Side note: Is there a way to condense the current one so a person could type a person's name and read the comments pertaining to that particular person instead of going thru all 48 pages?

Hey Ken,
I like the idea.  A few questions (without research) jumps to my mind though:
            1. Do people's  trade references stay beside their names in PM?
I ask this as a security to those who are newer.  If they are approached by someone by PM, then they should be able to see that person's reputation then and there.
            2. Will it be a feature that will be constantly with the boards?  If it ever goes away, then that could wreak havoc.
            3. Will people remember to maintain it?
Case in point:  With the thread, a person involved in one half of a deal could post therefore moving this thread to the top of the "new threads" list which serves as a reminder to the other party.  With this system, what would serve a reminder to both parties to leave feedback?

Again, I am all for it because I used a similar system a lot with Ebay.  I am just trying to think out of the box to help smooth the transition.  Instead of maintaining a thread once a week (on average), people could get a quick accurate count at any time on the boards especially during the time of working out deals.

Great idea!

Regarding the questions:

Sadness, I don't think so - that's why the individual pages were created for people.

soul seeker, currently the trade references aren't seen when looking at PMs, but I don't know if The Schaef would be able to change that. It sounds like this is something that is now a permanent feature by what he has said, so I don't think #2 is an issue. You would be able to send people a message to remind them to leave feedback for you, just like you can on eBay. I don't know whether they would be more or likely to than with this thread, but it probably depends on the person!

I will see what I have going on the rest of this week and next week, and maybe I can find time to do it. Since we just got back from Iowa last night (thanks for the great time, everyone else who was there!), I don't know my schedule at all...

I will update the new trader system with the references that are here. However, I can't add them to myself, so mine will just be lower or someone else can. :)

You just click on the person's name to see their profile, click on the number that is their trade count, and then click "Submit feedback for..." on the left side. The default is that you are the buyer, so if you want to change that, you can.

If you are already in the Redemption Market, you can simply click their trade count next to their name is a post to save a step.

I will NOT be updating the new system from this point forward, so I would strongly encourage everyone to use the new system to submit feedback on trades. :)

Let me know if you have any questions!
Ken
