I've been thinking a lot lately about staple cards. In an effort to reduce my deck sizes, I've been examining what I NEED and what I want. I was wondering what you guys think of the matter. I'll list off my staples and some other cards I like to try to fit in. Feel free to answer however you wish or critique my choices. Whatever. I'm just curious who uses what as a staple.
Good Doms: Son of God, New Jerusalem, and Angel of the Lord
I have yet to build a deck without any of these cards. I am starting to play smaller decks, so Guardian and Harvest Time almost made it in here, but not enough for me to call them staples. In the future, they may enter this realm for me though.
Evil Doms: Christian Martyr, Destruction of Nehushtan, Falling Away
Burial is a notable exception in this category, but lately I have found it to be bad in my deckstyles, which are typically site locks or fast decks, neither of which typically is aided by the discarding of one soul. Falling Away is also beginning to slip out of contention as a staple. It's become too situational to me and has no use except for it's given use, unlike a Dom such as Harvest Time (for Confusion of Mind, etc).
Other Cards: 2 varying ways of site access, Confusion of Mind, Chariot of Fire
I feel like I use more staples than this, but I can't really think of any. Wall of Protection contends for a spot, but even that does not go in most decks I build historically, though it has increased in use recently. The site access typically comes as two sites, because I don't like tying up my artifact slot, although sometimes an artifact is used. Confusion of Mind has almsot no downside, so I see no reason not to staple it. Chariot of Fire again has no real downside, and if I play right, can possible be a Destruction Magnet if I am anticipate no need to use it in the game.
What are your staples?
-
Wall is absolutely necessary. Most decks have banding characters; they will take advantage of your defense with no wall. As for LS's these are teh staples for me:
CBP
NT only
Female only
wanderer
shuffler
2 or 3 liner
The other two (or 3 or 4, depending on deck size, vary due 2 teh strategy of the deck.) sometimes people use revealer, anti-burial, site doubler, site immunity, speed bump (in bigger decks), and sometimes other stuff.
-
I purposely exculded lost souls from my lists because it varies greatly based on my deck. This combined with the genesis of many new SA souls has made such that I can not say I have even 2 or 3 souls that I will always use. A couple years ago I would have said NT, Female, and Two/Three Liner, but now, that's just not true. The Revealer is the closest thing to a staple soul for me, and even that doesn't get used in every deck.

Son of God, New Jerusalem, Angel of the Lord, Christian Martyr, Destruction of Nehushtan, Lost Soul (Hopper)
I also almost always include a Lampstand of the Sanctuary and some form of Temple fortress.

I have no staples. I've built decks without Son of God, I've built decks without pretty much every staple card mentioned.
For the most part though (assuming this is Type-1):
Son of God
New Jerusalem
Angel of the Lord
Christian Martyr
Unholy Writ
Captured Ark
2-line
N.T Only
Female Only
Promised Land / New Jerusalem / Dragon Raid
Uzzah

Cards that are in most of the T1 2P decks I build:
Son of God

Angel of the Lord
Christian Martyr
Burial
Wall of Protection
Blue Tassels
Chariot of Fire
Dragon Raid/Promised Land

Uzzah as a staple is definately sometihng I've considered. But, whenever he's in my off colored decks, I usually end up gutting him.
Blue Tassels/Unholy Writ are definately both things I have considered, but I don't own either.
