Title: The Recursive Skull
Post by: Minister Polarius on April 29, 2017, 02:00:48 PM
Golgotha, get attacked, place EE of your choice, block with Outsiders, activate Shrine to Artemis, shuffle erstwhile discarded EE, search for a Greek.

Unfortunately, Outsiders can't activate an idol from the artifact pile.

Noah and Nathan can pull this off if banded in during battle, but you can't place an EE prior to attacking with one of those Heroes.

Hey, I'm just trying to figure out how to make the other two Outsiders not garbage! You can do this with The First Bowl as well.

I'm confused as to which two you think are garbage. The Gray/PG is the only one that isn't auto include if you're playing the brigade. It's pretty good in Multiplayer. It can play both confusion and false peace, seems pretty good.

I found the Brown/Crimson Outsiders extremely useful in playtesting. HHI, Shrine and Image of the Beast are all great artifacts to put in the Reserve for situational usage. Outsiders/Image was a nice way to undo a strong Hero ability (such as Jephthah) without blocking FBTN. Asherah Pole is another great idol but since it's only effective against O.T. offenses, it is absolutely an ideal candidate for the Reserve.

I did not test the Gray/Pale Outsiders as much as they feel much more like a character that goes into a combo deck. Might be interesting trying them in an Egyptian-based defense with Given Over to Egypt.

The crimson one isn't anywhere near an auto-include. Reserve slots are very valuable and the most that could conceivably be in there is one idol (perhaps two if you're using Beast from the Earth). Crimson and Brown don't go well together. The best use is activating HHI which will still require further fuel to capitalize on since the last hero in a banding chain is rarely also a banding hero. Abadon negates a powerful hero without having to faff with Image. It's not exactly garbage, just garbage by RoJ standards.

I don't understand why the original scenario doesn't work, as long as you have shrine in any of the targetable locations by that outsiders…

it does work I think that Guardian was just pointing out that it would only work 1 time unless you get rid of Shrine say with The Twenty-Four Elders

Gotcha! And thus it wouldn't be a "recursive" combo...thanks for explaining!

You can just activate Shrine during your prep phase and shuffle it back into our deck, then search it out with Outsiders next time you block (assuming searching your deck is a viable option).

Never realized Shrine can shuffle itself! Brilliant! So it does work for the EE recursion. Cool!

True enough, but that does mean you're sacrificing your artifact slot and that you need Outsiders to survive each battle.  :o

All of this also assumes your opponent doesn't take your Golgotha.  ::)

I mean if it gets out of control I'm not even going to attack with Joshua i'll be like "nope we're done here, you've lost your golgotha privileges sir". I've done this with Jordan's creeping deceiver before but he took my Thaddeus so we traded back...
