Title: Special abilities that make you question how it fits the bible account?
Post by: stefferweffer on March 03, 2010, 05:06:54 PM
This thread is not designed to make card designers feel bad, especially since making a bible card game must be extremely difficult.  But there are a bunch of cards where I wonder how the special ability assigned to that card fits the bible account.  Perhaps you have wondered this too?  I thought that if we started listing the ones we had questions on then perhaps someone might explain the reasoning behind that card.  But I also realize that sometimes in a card game the reason is just "We wanted a card that would do X".  Thanks for sharing.

By the way, I just started a thread about all the cards that we feel fit the bible account really well, so please add your favorites to that one too!  Thanks!

Uzzah?
Ark of the Covenant? (Sounds too much like Raiders of the Lost Ark to me)
12-Fingered Giant?  (This ability sounds better for Goliath, in my opinion)

Others?

Uzzah defiled the Ark by touching it with unclean hands, and died. One of the Bible's most prominent heroes (David) was very upset with God for that reason. I would say Uzzah belongs on your other thread.

The Ark of the Covenant was captured by the Philistines. If you haven't read the story, you should read it. It caused a plague to spread throughout the land, and it got so bad that they literally brought it back. So when the Ark is active, even if the EC wins, he dies.

12-Fingered Giant probably fits well into the category of "we wanted someone to negate big FBTNB chains." Not much is known of him, except that he was a giant with six-fingers on each hand, and six toes on each foot, he was killed by Jonathan (not the prince, the 6/6 purple guy from Unlimited) and he taunted Israel.

The ones I can think of that don't fit well are:

Authority of Christ--Jesus never killed anyone, and the story talks about his authority over the weather.
The Garden Tomb--Obviously the characters were chosen for a Biblical reason, but the SA was merely chosen to combat splash defenses.
We all know how that worked out...

AoC - he discarded a lot of demons :)  Perhaps it would be better if AoC just discarded the demons and set the human ECs aside until the end of the game.  :)

New Jerusalem is the most mismatched SA in the game.

Good point about David being upset.  I knew why Uzzah was discarded, but in that case they did not "discard" the ark.  Regarding the Ark artifact, it was never to be used as a "weapon", but I see your point about what happened to anyone who opened it (even Israelites by the way).

Samson killed no demons. Nor stopped any.
