What do you think is the best T1 deck in the Metagame right now?

The best deck is the one that wins the most consistently.

In the vast majority of regions that's TGT.

TGT and Speed dominate.

My Saint of Virtue has won every tournament it has played in...

(1 tournament, local, didn't even end up getting the stiffest of competition.... but thats besides the point)

If TGT is the top offense now, then what is the best defense to counter it?

Philistines, which have PO, rendering TGT fort useless?  probably

Assyrians, which have AC, which provides decent territory protection?  maybe

Orange demons, which has Gates of Hell and Destrucive Sin?  maybe

Hero-lite "deck-opponent-before attacking" + Abom, which doesn't often rescue until late game, making TGT useless in the first half of the game, and then discards TGT with Abom?  maybe

What else can hold its own against TGT?

I would say Egyptians are under-rated against TGT.  They have one of the best protection fortresses, plus 3 of them can use Magic Charms.  Also the deck discard strategy could end up discarding TGT & other needed cards for the offense!

I would say that Gates of Hell is the best anti-TGT card in the game, assuming you can get rid of Three Nails. All TGT Heroes have the interesting quality of having states that never get initiative vs. 3/7. So if you use Gates and can pull off the Wandering Spirit/Trembling Demon combo, your souls are unrescuable by TGT heroes.

The no SA john can play first vs 3/7.

PO leaves black extremely weak too effectively use it. the enhancements are going to run out unless you're playing a huge defense.

I include King Hezikiah in my TGT deck (which is actually T2)

Orange is good.

Hero-lite is good, and my favorite kind of deck.

Gold is awesomesauce. I use it for the herolite...

+1  Demon banding with GoH is TGT's worst nightmare: those darn EC keep coming back!  For this very reason I usually run Three Nails and/or ACiB in my TGT decks.  My current herolite Abom deck (using Phillies and PO) has a good record against TGT also.

Valid point. Fixed.

right now my deck has a perfect record against TGT. of course, only one person in our playgroup uses it, and I haven't played them in a long time...but TGT really doesn't effect my deck. go ahead and ignore the imaginary evil characters.

I play No SA John.(because the good one is in my other deck)

Players aren't going to be happy if speed is suggested as the way to counter TGT.

Tell you what: if you'd like, you can PM me your address and I will send you a John from the H deck that you can use in your secondary deck. Few people have ever proven me wrong* so I respect those who do.

My latest type 2 was made to counter all top archetypes for offenses. Brown splash with black on defense. Image of Jealousy/ Phillies Outpost/ Land Dispute makes it to where your fortresses on both sides mean nothing. Sites on defense, Unholy Writ x3, Burial Shroud x2, Darius' Decree x2, Golden Calf x2, and I splash greeks/ A-Bomb. On paper it seems to stop every offense played right now for the most part.

Hey, I pointed out a grammatical mistake you made in the letter game. Does that entitle me to a FSP?

Indeed it does. All you need to do is send me your address, and a valid credit card number, cardholder's name, expiration date, and security code with at least $3000 of credit available. Once I receive that, your FSP will be along shortly.
