Everyone knows about the Philosophy/Zimri combo or the Philosophy/Enchanters combo, but here's a new one I like better.

Gather ET. RA ET, play something if you want, grab Philosophy, band to Lemuel, and exchange Philosophy with any O.T. Good Enhancement. If you have TToD out, this is basically win unless you are blocked by someone holding a weapon, as you can play Testing Solomon's Wisdom every turn. Combine this with a hand-thinning defense and you're even more in luck.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

This would be better if you gathered King Lemuel instead. Then you could exchange philosophy for an enhancement, get philosophy back, and then play the enhancement you searched for (unlimited pre-battle Peace Treaty awesomeness). This combo would really work with any good SA-less enhancement.

Pretty. I always loved using ET to recur philosophy for I am Holy and Zimri.

Uh, actually you absolutely can. the enhancement activates on that specific character, but then you can target a different one, its the way the cards have been played since Warriors. Pre-warriors actually.

No, you just need a silver hero to play it on.  I had the same question as you, I know what you mean.  Here is the thread I made.

http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=13972.0

and here is the official answer:

Hey,

This issue was discussed by TPTB in July and actually did come up at nationals (I remember making a ruling on it during booster draft).

The ruling on the issue was:

"Hero" means "this Hero" when it is the subject of the sentence and "Hero" means "a Hero" when it is the direct object of the sentence.

So when Provisions says "Set hero aside" the subject is an understood you, the verb is set and "hero" is the direct object.  Which means "Set hero aside" on Provisions is played as "Set a Hero aside" and thus functions the same as Ambush.

Correct, If you have Captain (Or any other silver character) in play, you can activate Gathering on them, then target and set-aside ET (Or any other hero)

I was talking to a buddy of mine about this very combo on tuesday night.

easiest answer bubbleboy is a curse is a bad thing a covenant with god is good and well philosphy is a human subject so can obviously be influenced either way

Philosophy - the card has no SA and a card-type box on opposite corners of the card.  Default card type is both good and evil enhancement.

Covenant/Curse - the card has one card-type box containing two types.  Default card type is covenant/curse.  Once played, the card type then reverts to the type played (enhancement or artifact) AND retains the type of covenant/curse.

Saul/Paul - the card has an SA and a card-type box on opposite corners of the card.  Default card type is evil character.

Abram/Abraham - the card has an SA and a card-type box on opposite corners of the top of the card.  Default card type is a specific hero, Abram.

Multi-color card - the card has one card-type box containing two or more colors.  Default color is all colors found in the box.

Could there be better consistency?  Probably.  But right now things seem to be okay and understood by most.  We only have the two "flip" cards.  I would probably urge for more consistency if more "flip" cards are made, more card-type boxes are added to a card, or more items are included inside a card-type box.
Final ANB errata: Return player to game.
