Has anybody ever done magicians? They are a little tricky, but the they are also quite fun. Any ideas?

Damsel with Spirit of Divination + Magic Charms = Profit.
-
Magicians are best as a splash.
Then again, I'm almost exclusively a t2 player, so I may be wrong.
-
I own most Magicians except for two or three or four. I did use them at a tourney and did mediocre, but I think they can stand alone.
-
Magicians work best if you pair them with Assyrians since most of them are Pale Green.
They can Also work well with Egyptians since they have a couple decent (and a couple lame) magicians.
Another option are Babylonians since there are two pale green/crimson magicians (Chaldeans and astrologers).
Magicians can also work with Kings of Israel since Manny is a Magician and can band to a magician.
Lastly, and possibly most effectively they can also work as a supplement to the basic stand-alone defense for the use of DoU and Charms.

That's basically what I run with Assyrian Survivor too. It's been pretty effective so far, but I'll see when I use it in a tournament next week.

I played straight magicians at nationals, went well. Would have gone better if I got more than 3 hours of sleep the night before.

From using magicians in all types at least once, magicians are best in multiplayer. Use the 5 magicians, Magic Charm( which is a great multiplayer card) Achans Sin, and Magic Snakes and Unholy Writ. Thats a defense Ive used a few times and its pretty good for multiplayer at least. Ive used it for 1v1 and its not as good because your the only person who has lost souls for your opponent to rescue, so your going to have to block more than three or four times. And with type2 I'd go magicians/Orange.

Sleep? No one sleeps at Nationals.

Magicians are the best humans you can put with orange because they use each others enhancements (Damsel with Spirit of Divination, Deceiving spirit, Ect.)

This is true, however, orange isn't necessarily the best thing to pair with magicians. I generally prefer Assyrians or even just splashing magicians into the normal standalone defense, and it generally has modest success.

Not to mention they both fiddle with the bottom of the deck. If you want to go with a larger defense, this can be fun.
But really, straight Magicians is pretty decent. They have some of the best characters, plus Confusion, DoU, Achan's Sin, Snakes, Divination, Dissuading Speech, Invoking Terror, 2KH, and Forgotten History (on Manasseh for best results), to name a few enhancements. A little brown splash with that could go a long way as well. The only problem I could see is a shortage of CBN. That may or may not be a very big problem depending on who you play.

So that's why everyone was playing Gardenciples...
