Title: Keeping Household Idols permanent?
Post by: stefferweffer on June 17, 2010, 11:01:10 AM
I'm working on a defense that will be very dependent on Household Idols staying around.  I was thinking of Lampstand and Tabernacle to stop DON.  FBTN offense to stop Lying unto God.  And Pagan Priest on the off chance that Household Idols got discarded.

But what is the best defense against Captured Ark showing up and forcing me to shuffle Household Idols?  Is there a character or other cards that can let me search my deck for it (besides False Peace of course)?

Thanks.

The Magi can search for Household Idols. Also, Stolen Idols would work as well.

Stolen Idols
Type: Evil Enh. • Brigade: Brown • Ability: 2 / 2 • Class: None • Special Ability: Search your draw pile for Household Idols and activate it. Previous Artifact is interrupted and prevented. All banding of Heroes is negated. • Identifiers: OT, False Religious Practice • Verse: Genesis 31:19 • Availability: Patriarchs booster packs (Rare)

Honestly though, the best defense against Captured Ark is to have another Artifact active somewhere else, such as in a Temple, Magic Charms on a Magician (which would be good if you have other PG characters), or UW/30 Pieces on High Priest's Palace, etc.

Thanks.  I like those ideas.

If your deck is so dependant on one card, you should probably have ways to search for it as well, but yeah, adding a Magic Charms or a temple with Lampstand could be awesome in and of itself.

Magic Charms?  How does that help me with Household Idols?  Thanks.

Just against Captured Ark. It gives you another option to shuffle so you don't have to shuffle HHI.

Ahh.  Cool!  Never thought of that.  Thanks!

So if I were to choose only ONE magician for this deck to place Magic Charms on, which Magician should I choose?

What Brigades are you using?

It's Splash Prince of this World (Priests), Nero, Phillistine Garrison, Seven Sons Sceva and Phillistine Armorbearer.  Since I am also including Torment and Lying unto God in there, I'm thinking of using Magic Charms with Enchanter TxP?  I assume he is a Magician?

Thanks.

TxP Enchanter is indeed a Magician.

it looks like your defense is based on (tho I don't know if you posted all your ECs) immune to lone, but not allowing them to band. if that's the case you should probably place as much attention on preventing your ECs from dying. I think I see people get around immune to lone ECs by using interrupts more than banding. Honestly, I would consider using Wasting Disease instead of or in addition to HHI. it'll stop "interrupt the battle draw 3 and play a nasty EC killer" stuff. and it will stop an Ethiopian Treasurer+Authority of Christ and many nasty things prophets like to do before a battle starts. then flip up a Holy of Holies in a Temple to kill FBTN. if they do band play a banding enhancement on an immune EC (Lurking would be good) to bring in the 12 finger Giant to reduce the Heroes back to a lone one; then wah-la! your EC is immune again! anyways, just an idea off the top of my head. this stratagy would work well with HHI too. anyone else think of something that can keep the ECs from losing a battle? its good you have ways to recur them, but you'll still have to surrender the Lost Soul.

Brigade: Brown • Ability: 0/6 • Class: None • Attributes: Curse • Special Ability: Prevent all good abilities that
allow a player to play an Enhancement. • Availability: Priests booster packs (Uncommon)

You are correct that interrupt the battle and play the next cards would mess this up.  But Wasting Disease would not stop all the cards that interrupt the battle and do something at the same time (i.e. He is risen).  And a lot of those interrupts ignore or set aside rather than convert or discard, so the ECs stay around longer.  Regarding AOC I would almost never have two ECs in play at the same time anyway.  The deck is not intended to stop all rescues, but to stall long enough with HHI plus Immunity, Recursion of those ECs, Magic Charms, Unholy Writ (in High Priest's Palace) and Lost Soul manipulation.  It may not work very well at all, but I'm trying to be different.  I just got the deck down to 50 cards, and am revising my deck thread right now.

Thanks for all the advice!
