Is RBD an effective way to counter Speed? Or is Pigs LS better?
-
The main problem with RBD is that it's vulnerable to DoN. Lampy solves this problem, but you'll need to draw all three cards required before a speed deck draws DoN, or wins. Pigs is also nice, but since most themes already have a D3 hero, it's not perfect.
The main issue with counters to speed is that you'll need to draw them early on in the game, before the speed really gets going. In other words, you'll also need a speed deck.

Using both is good. The best way to counter speed is to use a fast balanced deck (Judges, Genesis or Red/Purple on offense) with at least two of RBD, HSR, and CwD, in addition to Naz.

Maybe DD as well? I like it because you can discard it to discard al their Disciples in Boat :)

Disciples, while strong and certainly viable, isn't currently being used too much. DD saw a lot of use last season, but it won't be nearly as popular this year.

In what world are Genesis or Red/Purple "balanced"? They're both extremely offense heavy, and Genesis with a gold defense would be considered speed in the conventional sense, and purple/red is just speed to begin with.

My Red/Purple deck (O.T. red/purple of course, not disciples) is a mostly balanced deck with a bit more defense than offense, and while not the best deck, (the defense does need an update for the new strategies for the new set) the offense doesn't really seem to suffer much for not being all that big. I know that isn't the same for everyone but it seems very possible to me to build a good balanced Red/Purple deck.
I can't really speak for genesis, I've never tried to make a balanced deck out of it. I have a deck for it, but its entirely meant for speed.

Purple/Red and Genesis can both be potent with ~15 cards. While Geneptians is certainly speedy, Gold has more than enough blocking power to be used as a real defense. Dreaming Pharaoh to Egyptian Magicians to Egyptian Horsemen+Horses to Wonders Forgotten or Evil Spirit is particularly nasty.
Red/Purple pairs very nicely with Brown (either gate, not both). I have a balanced Red/Purple deck that frequently outspeeds true speed decks because I have so much to stymie them and they have nothing but DoN to stop my strats.

Then you are specifically balancing them. Any deck can "become" balanced (I've seen strong Disciples decks with about 16 offense cards, including support cards), but I think that Genesis at least, is geared towards a large offense and a small defense, if you're going to be playing to its strengths. Then again, I know I'm just splitting hairs, so feel free to ignore me. ::)

maybe you guys could post some lists for us netdeckers... ;D

Thats why I throw out a destructive artifact that while immediatly get DoN'ed like writ. problem solved

Some, but not all, speed decks have Captured Ark as well. A lot depends on the draw (and if you're placing your hopes on the draw against a speed deck, you're already at a disadvantage)
