Title: In Case We Need Another Samuel Combo...
Post by: Gabe on May 17, 2012, 09:31:46 PM
My favorite combo with Samuel, Evil King Saul and Hormah was nixed my the recent change to the rules for duplicate characters, so I had to come up with another use for Evil King Saul.

Provisions Angel Under the Oak.
Rescue with AUtO, D2 and exchange for Samuel.
Search for Evil King Saul and D2.
Band or not, it's up to you and whether or not you think your opponent might use brown (aka Haman's Plot).
Provisions kicks in now and you can choose Evil King Saul to block.
If your band is large enough to beat him rescue a LS. If you didn't band play Ehud's Dagger or Samuel's Sacrifice for a CBN win.

Question:  I understand that CTB abilities trigger last, after add to battle and band, but is exchange actually an add-to-battle?  I don't think it would matter either way, and I'm not challenging your combo, I just wanted to make sure that this is how it would be ruled.

And of course Ehud's Dagger is beast, especially in that sort of deck.  So under-appreciated.  I also love dropping it on KoT and watching the opponent cry ;)

Exchange is not the same thing as add to battle. The end result can be similar though.  :)

I would use Samuel's Edict, but that's just me.

Bring in Ahimelek so you can Laver Saul next turn.

I would use Samuel's Edict, but that's just me.

Especially in T1, you want Sam's Edict for when you have to negate something and discard someone and have it be CBN.  Since Edict could negate an EE and then discard the EC it was played on, it is more useful and you'd hope to be able to use Dagger as a battle-winner instead in that case to save it.

I was more pointing out how Gabe is trying to use Samuel's Sacrifice.

Ha, sorry, missed that.  I do that myself a lot, even if it's a different Judge in the name ;)
