Title: Angels Protect...the High Places?
Post by: Minister Polarius on July 30, 2009, 02:12:55 AM
Is there anything to prevent you from using Protection of Jerusalem to protect High Places and Capture to your heart's content?

Goodie goodie goodie! I'll wait to see what else TxP has to offer first, but I'm all but convinced I'll be playing Silver/Gray.

I'm trying to decide if this is a win because it makes a virtually uknown card playable or a loss because High Places was not meant to be that strong...hmmm... :P

Whew!! Nice find! I have a feeling that combo will become fairly standard in the near future.

Great, there went my strategy for getting back into Type II...I didn't think anyone else would remember that card.

if only the capture could be used with demonic stronhold or raiders camp :'(

Yeah, if only... ::)

(No seriously, one of Bryon's stated reasons why High Places was made assures me that this would in fact work).

Wow, capturing even more heroes from territories before they even get to enter battle.

How many more years until the battle phase of Redemption completely disappears?

I didn't see anything in the article that says that Pol's idea wouldn't work.

However, I did see the quote: "Blocking is overrated.", which goes along with my perception that Redemption is moving away from the battle phase.

Maybe for a combo or 2, but I doubt overall. I am sure there is going to be a card (artifact or territory enhancement) that says only characters can be played during discard or prep phase to get around it (except this one of course) :P

If you read the comments section, you will see that Sean had the Protection of Jerusalem idea as of July 6. That's how Pol got "beaten". Sean just failed to put his idea where people would actually read it, so it can be safely assumed that he and Polarius (and myself, I just don't have any proof) thought of the combo independently.

Regardless, Sean is the one who has evidence that he is the first non-playtester to figure out the combo. And so we can all blame him when PoJ/HiP abuse is rampant and all of our games time out.

Just kidding, kudos Sean.

There's a new card coming out that should be able to prevent this protection by altering the set aside

Target heroes that are set aside. It's a good idea anyway, and it will stop this combo

I'm not syaing I was first, but I was definately smart enough not to point it out. Now everywhere is going to be of a high elevation.

Neither do I. It was because of the raw anger I felt after remember one too many losses. I shall keep it for comic relief in the future.

I didn't find it funny because I was caught up in trying to figure out what RLK stands for.  As a matter of fact, I'm still confused about what it stands for.

Oh, that makes much more sense now.  And no, I'm not big in the tournament scene.

Yeah, hopefully Maryland will get bigger for you. It'll make any future PA States/Regionals much better.

Considering how I'm in NC for 9 months out of the year, more MD tournaments doesn't benefit me personally.  However, I would love for MD to hold more tournaments.

Silver never went downhill. It's a classic case of everything else looking so good that it caused Silver to look bad.
