Okay, so I went in and am trying to figure out how to pre-rank players for the draft. I put people in the "Round 1 Pre-Draft Picks" area. Is that what I'm supposed to do? If so, how many should I have in there, and do I need them in "Round 2 Pre-Draft Picks", etc.?

Thanks!

Thanks Kirk! Looks great. :)

One question; these are two separate leagues, right? We're not really playing one league with 20 teams are we? XD

Ken,

You generally want to prerank enough players to compensate for 16 rounds with 10 picks in each rounds (160 players total). Otherwise, if you run out of preranked players, you will automatically draft the highest ranked player available (defined by the website) in a position you still need filled. An easy way to do that if you don't want to spend a whole lot of time ranking yourself would be to sort by ADP (average draft position) and click on Arian Foster and then scroll down until you find Kyle Orton and press Shift and then click on his name. Then you can add all of those players to your list. Then you can proceed to manually move some of them up and down based on your personal preferences and remove others from the list you would not like to draft (such as Randy Moss, who has retired).

Josh,
It is 2 leagues, just hosted on the same page.

I will post what I updated the first post in this topic here to make it more easy to see.

--------------------------------------

The league is up and running. Check your emails for a link and your password. You can go on the new site and change your team name, logo, etc.
http://www8.myfantasyleague.com/2011/home/60600

Drafts
Now to determine draft timess for each conference.

I will go ahead and put the Alpha draft time for Aug 20 at 9 pm EST as I heard no objections to that and y'all can just let me know if that does not work.

I made a poll for Beta's draft time.

2 Conferences: Alpha and Beta
This league will run similar to the EPL or other foreign soccer leagues with relegation and promotion at the end of each season. At the end of each season, the top 3 teams from Beta will rotate up to Alpha and the bottom 3 teams from Alpha will drop to Beta.

Conference Alpha and Conference Beta will operate independently of each other for the duration of each season.
Examples:
- Each player (e.g. Tom Brady) can be on one team in Alpha and one team in Beta.
- You only trade with teams in your conference.
- You square off against your own conference for your own conference title.
- 2 separate drafts.

Playoffs Weeks 15 and 16

Waivers following each week
Every week after games finish on the weekend, teams can submit requests to pick up available players. However, compared to past years where it was based on who logged online first, this year all free agents are put on the 'waiver wire' again over the weekend's games to allow for more equitable distribution of free agent pick-ups.

Scott,

I sent another email from the league to you and a personal email from my kirk.dennison@gmail.com account. If you could check your spam folder and let me know if the first one showed up there that would be cool.

Maybe that is why a number of managers haven't joined yet?

To that effect I sent out personal emails to everyone who hasn't joined yet.

I got your emails, but I haven't had time to join while I am at Nats. Thanks. I will join soon. The draft time you said was fine.

Is there any place I can find the scoring rules? I looked at every link on the league page and came up with nothing.  :P

Up at the very top of the home page are several drop down menus.  Hover your mouse over "Reports", then move down to "Rules", and then select "League Scoring".  Impressively well-hidden for a fairly important page.

So...does each league of 10 teams draft from the whole pool of players separately? Or do we all 20 collectively draft from the same pool like previous years? Also, how the heck do you draft? haha

Kirk,

ESPN doesn't allow a league manager to not have a team.  However, it is possible for one team to have more than one manager so you could be league manager in two leagues and then have a second owner in whichever league that you are not "active" in each season.  It would be a little annoying to change people around each season but it is a simple process of invitation and deletion of owners to make it so that the right people are in Alpha and Beta each year if we decided to use ESPN.  ESPN leagues carry over from year to year even if they aren't keeper leagues as well.
May you prosper greatly!

Sean,

Thanks for the heads up. Definitely worth mulling over this season. The 2nd draft was alot smoother than the 1st one. Hard to figure out how to make the league feel unified while being split at the same time and keep records centralized going forward instead of having to track them on anothe site. It may come down to a vote for next year.

I have no idea what happened with my draft.  The only draft choices I had any say in were the ones that I placed on my pre-draft list.  I had deleted it before the draft thought because you wanted us to all get rid of our draft lists for some reason.    SO when my first two picks came and went and I didnt even realize it I had to keep rushing back to the list to add players I wanted.  but it was complicated by the fact that many of my players I wanted had already been taken.

Finally I just gave up and let the computer draft.  I dont know whether I was doing something wrong or what.  I was in the page where it showed the draft order and I didnt know anything was wrong until I decided to refresh the page and saw that we had already gone through one complete cycle and I got skipped.  I mean my drafts weren't bad (except that the computer REALLY like WR because I got like 6 of them) but all told I didnt have a good time and was pretty frustrated.

Matt,

I am sorry for your frustrations during the draft. It was nowhere near as smooth as the Yahoo drafting system. However, I do not recall asking anyone to get rid of their draft list.

I apologize that the draft was not a pleasant experience for you. I wish it went better for all of us.

As far as trying to make an informed decision about where to host the league next year, I want to know if our problems were the result of an isolated case of a bad draft or a larger issue. Would you mind trying to join a Mock Draft on the myfantasyleague.com website to see if the drafting system will work properly on your system this time around? You can navigate to one as follows:
- Mouse over "My Leagues" (top center of any page)
- Click "Join a Mock Draft"
- Enter a team name (e.g. Test) and your email address
- Choose a drafting position on the next available draft.
- Click "Enter Draft"

Try to select a player and press the draft button. I am interested to know if the system will work for you properly a second time.

I was probably the one who said to get rid of your lists.  If so, I apologize if it messed up your draft.  But I read up on the rules of drafting and didn't like how the pre-draft lst works during a draft.  It's not the same as Yahoo.  If you have someone on your pre-draft list that is available when it is your turn to draft, that player gets drafted right away no matter what.  If you decide that you want to change your mind it's too bad.  You'd have to remove everyone that is still available on your pre-draft list.  In Yahoo it only uses your pre-draft ranking if you don't pick someone by the time the timer expires.  That's a huge difference in my book.

As for the draft, once I got used to the user interface I didn't have any problems.  Yes, there were a few blips but the refresh always worked for me.  I want to see how this portal works for the whole season before I make a judgement.  The week-to-week part may be out of this world good compared to Yahoo.  But I want a chance to see.  We can all rate it at the end of the season.
