Title: You will Remain vs. Decrease, Toss, or By the Numbers.
Post by: fyero on June 23, 2016, 03:55:18 PM
Can I use You Will Remain to add another Hero to the battle if I am being removed from the battle by a decrease ability, a tossed enhancement, or simply dying by the numbers?

Relevant info from You will Remain, "If an opponent removes your last hero from battle, you may remove this from the game to add your hero to battle."

Yes.

I agree on the first two, but I think dying by the numbers doesn't satisfy the requirement.  I'm pretty sure choosing to die by the numbers ends the battle.

That was my thinking as well.

Even if dying by the numbers didn't end the battle, I wouldn't think it was really your opponent doing the removal from battle, in any case.

Isn't the idea behind dying by the numbers that the Evil Character's strength is decreasing the Hero's toughness by that amount, thereby sending him to */0 or less and going to the discard pile? Wouldn't that then be an opponent's card causing my hero to be removed from battle, thereby enabling me to activate You Will Remain?

I'm pretty sure dying by the numbers is more like you closing not to play an enhancement (whether yoy can on not doesnt matter) when you are already losing thus ending the battle and then your character would get discard in the battle resolution phase. So your character isn't removed from battle it is discarded as a result of the battle that just concluded. That's my take anyways.

But if my opponent's character was not in battle, then my character would not have been removed from battle. It is solely based upon one of my opponent's cards that I am removed from battle.

the battle is over. So you aren't being removed from battle. Battle resolution is where your character gets discarded.

That makes sense, because battle resolution is separate from the battle phase. Thanks!
