Title: Yet another gained abilities question!
Post by: Perri on March 11, 2010, 07:31:28 PM
Let's say I have spy. Let's say I play Provisions. Let's say I go into battle with spy.

Now, if I remember correctly, hero abilities go off first, then gained ones. So I look at the opponent's hand, then withdraw from battle. Provisions goes off, can I still choose the blocker, for the sakes of something like, I don't know, Ark of the Covenant?

I'm hoping yes, since Warrior's Spear still goes off, but this is a bit different. :/

Spy
Type: Hero Char. • Brigade: Red • Ability: 3 / 2 • Class: Warrior • Special Ability: Holder may look at one opponent's hand or cards face down in a Site. Hero may then withdraw from battle unharmed or continue the battle.

Provisions
Type: Hero Enh. • Brigade: Green • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Set Hero aside for 2 turns. On return, holder may draw 2 cards and may choose the Evil Character his opponent's uses to block Hero's next rescue attempt.

Ark of the Covenant
Type: Artifact • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Regardless of battle outcome, any Evil Character an opponent uses to block a rescue attempt is discarded at the end of battle. Limit Holder to two such discards per game.

In order to block, there has to be a hero in battle to block. So, if the hero is gone, you can't choose the blocker. At least, that's how I would rule it.

In order for a WC Enh. to activate, a character must be in battle...or so we thought...

You remember incorrectly. Gained abilities are hero abilities and trigger at the same time that they would naturally. In this case it doesn't matter much since CtB abilities always go last, but it is easy to think of scenarios where that fact is important.
