Title: Which Armorbearer are you? (REG change?)
Post by: Gabe on March 02, 2009, 11:04:54 AM
The REG list of Generic cards. (http://www.redemptionreg.com/REG/gloss_genericcards.htm)

The green Hero Armorbearer (http://www.redemptionreg.com/REG/armorbearer.htm)is considered a generic character.  The verse (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=I%20Samuel%2014:7&version=31)used for the card is talking about Prince Jonathan's Armorbearer.  There are a number of reasons he might be considered generic instead of unique.  I'm sure that Israel's army had many Armorbearers.

Philistine Armorbearer (http://www.redemptionreg.com/REG/philistinearmorbearer.htm)isn't listed as a generic character so I assume he's supposed to be unique.  The verse (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=I%20Samuel%2017:7;&version=31;)used for this card is talking about Goliath's Armorbearer.

For consistency purposes these two Armorbearers should be considered the same, either unique or generic.  I'd prefer to see "no name" characters like these remain generic but I value consistency first.

I agree completely. I expect/hope that Philistine Armorbearer's exclusion from the "generic" list was just an oversight.

I also agree that they should both be either generic or unique for the sake of consistency.

For gameplay reasons, I hope they are both generic.

For Biblical reasons, they were a specific person, so they should probably be unique.

Based on the trend of Redemption cards without names being generic (unless they have "The" a the beginning, or unless it messes up the game like Widow), then it should be generic.

Since we already have some exceptions in place I vote we retain the status quo: Armorbearer is generic and Philistine Armorbearer is unique.

Did you not catch the wink face?

I agree... they should both be generic.

Hey,

Uniqueness (or genericness) is decided on a case by case basis not according to any system.  So the genericness of Armorbearer and the uniqueness of Philistine Armorbearer are completely unrelated.

Trivia question: What four demons could all be considered the same unique evil character had Cactus decided to rule them unique rather than generic?

Red Dragon, King of Tyrus, Prince of this World, and Prince of the Air.

...Wait...those are all considered unique as far as having only one in play goes, correct?  They just aren't considered the same unique character?  I know they can't be generic in the sense that you can have multiples of  them in play, even the different versions of KoT and PotW.

I can't be the only one to find this completely ridiculous, can I?

As I understood it, a character is generic if it represents a group or a nonspecific person/being. That's a system. Exceptions are rare and made for gameplay reasons, like Widow.

+ 1 to Tim. I thought it was supposed to be considered Generic last I heard.

You just described the system.  Also, "The" is a clue that it is unique.

I've always ruled Philistine Armor Bearer as generic.  I think his exclusion from the list was an oversight.  Sorry I didn't catch that earlier.  And yes, it matters in Type 2 now, and in Type 1 in the future.  ;)

That's... enigmatic.

Yea, Philistines get help.   :)  Maybe a Philistine Archer that can only band to a unique Philistine WC EC??   ::)

Ok, Philistine Armorbearer will be listed in the generic section. It was an oversight - not a past ruling. Sorry about that.
