Special Initiative and Card Type

In another thread on the subject of Special Initiative, a question came up about targeting a card that removes itself from play before special initiative triggers. The REG stats that

Quote from: REG - SI
If the card with the removing ability was already removed from play due to its ability, it may still be targeted during Special Initiative by an enhancement that specifically targets its card type."

If card type means what I think it does (Enhancement, character, artifact, etc), then cards that say "Negate an evil card" or "Negate all non-weapon class special abilities" would not be able to target a card removed from play during special initiative because they do not specifically target any card types (Evil card being an alignment and non-weapon class being a class, neither of which are card types to my understanding). Is this the case or am I misunderstanding SI or the definition of card type?

People have always played it that if a card was removed from play due to its ability that part is also suspended and can be targeted for negation (or its ability) as if it were still in play. Doesn't really matter what the REG says, it's been that way for years and the authors of the REG understand this as well. Typo lol

Doesn't really matter what the REG says

What the REG says always matters because in the case that the REG is indeed wrong, it needs to be updated. I have also played it that way and I am 99% sure that's how it's intended to be played, but if that is case the REG needs to be corrected.
