Title: Trust
Post by: Minister Polarius on May 29, 2016, 04:38:29 PM
Do the Enhancements go back to hand after battle during resolution? Only Enhancements played before Trust or any?

"All good Enhancements played in battle may return to owner's hand except this one."

The only way the "return all GEs" GEs work is if all heroes are withdrawn from battle.  But with all the new good "battle extender" cards that are being printed now, I guess it is quite possible to add a hero to battle after your heroes withdrew via Trust.

I would say that "played" means those GEs that have already been played; it won't keep working, even if you use Faith of David or Boaz' Sandal to put another hero in battle.

I'm not getting where all heroes have to withdraw for the return to work in that SA. If it's true, it sounds like a bottom-up rule that is demonstrably no longer valid since offensive battle-extenders exist. Oftentimes, bottom-up rules slide by for a long time and nobody notices they're bottom-up because functionally it's not possible to have a broken situation. Then when the game gets more complex, the bottom-up nature of a rule is revealed and must be reversed.

Regardless, "enhancements played in battle" is different than "enhancements that have been played in battle" and going by the English grammar alone it takes a hard ruling to determine whether to translate "played in battle" wither "that have been" (as you suggest) or "that are" (the other perfectly valid alternative) before it.

Trust, Highway, and Stillness each received errata which added a clause so that the special abilities read, "You may withdraw a hero from battle.  If no Heroes remain in battle, return all good enhancements on that hero to your hand (except this one)."

This was done so that you could not rescue or create a side battle with Soldier of God and play Courage (to band a second hero), [Random GE that hurts opponent], and Stillness/Highway. If you only have to withdraw the banded hero to return all the enhancements to hand it effectively lets you keep Soldier of God in battle and play whatever good enhancements you want infinitely. Not to mention you could theoretically just keep the loop going and if your opponent couldn't stop it you could timeout whenever you want. :P

Correct, those cards received official erratas.

Cool. I can't pull all the shenaynays I wanted to, but the core is solid.
