If I am in a battle versus charachter who is immune to me. Can I play Trumpet Blast to discard an evil fortress even though I cannot discard the evil characters in battle?
Trumpet Blast
Type: Hero Enh. • Brigade: Teal • Ability: 7 / 0 • Class: None • Special Ability: Discard an evil Fortress or occupied Site from play to discard all Evil Characters in battle. • Identifiers: None • Verse: Joshua 6:8

In answer to your question, it is both cost/effect and do as much as you can. You can pay the cost without getting the effect though. I often use Paul and Hidden Treasures with TBlast to get rid of any protect Forts, so that the next turn I can use AoC.

Just to clarify, the "do as much as you can" part is a one-way street.
You can discard the evil fort/occupied site AND discard all ECs in battle.
You can just discard the evil fort/occupied site.
You CANNOT just discard all ECs in battle.

I just had an idea, there are plenty of protect forts, but are there any that protect against removal from the game?
I cannot think of any. so that would make all EC's vulnerable to Freedom! among other things.
-
Gates of Jerusalem protects against everything your opponent can do to you. But no other protect forts can protect against removal.

Not Defensively Anyways...

Yeah, I forgot about gates of Jerusalem....man that is a powerful fort. That protects against EVERYTHIng. even stuff that hasn't been invented yet.

Stupid overpowered TeXP Prophets who negate it with CBN status... ::)

Not really a "protect" Fort, more like an "Instead" Fort. And the conversation was primarily centered around Evil Protect Forts (since TBlast can't hurt God Forts) even though that wasn't explicitly stated I guess.
-
I don't think anything can hurt 'God' forts ;)
-
Those would have to include Chamber of Angels and Tartarsauce, then.
-
Don't forget Dust & Ashes... ::)

D&A is Old Testament, it can still be targeted by Set Fire.

Wow, Elder pwnd by Moderator. Win.

Actually, without giving to much away, I'm pretty sure D&A is one of those "God" Fortresses, untouchable by Set Fire. :)

The only "God Fortresses" in the game are NT Fortresses that play to set-aside area.
- OT Forts in a set-aside area can be discarded with Set Fire.
- Forts that cannot be negated can still be discarded
- Forts that are protected from effect can still be negated by cards like Spreading Mildew.
There is no OT Fortress in the game, past present or (if I have any say) future, that also has those other two properties. It is because of your recommendation, in fact, that Set Fire works on this card.
-
Man, I'm looking forward to this card.....

Doh, I forgot about that 11th hour change that made this card targetable...

LOL and you don't even know what it does yet, you just know there's a set-aside OT Fort out there somewhere.

That alone can be very exciting! Take Kerith Ravine for example...
-
What is Dust and Ashes I've never heard of that before. Is this a new card from the Disciples?

It seems to be making a good enough argument/discussion for me to like it. ;)

What??? I must not have seen that version. That makes me sad. Ah well, at least it's still set aside, to make it protected from most things.
-
To the best of my knowledge, Set Fire is the only card that can even target it at present. NT set-aside Forts are still "God Fortresses" but OT set-aside Forts are still well nigh indestructible.
-
Alright people, stock up on Set Fire now!
