Title: Timing on Lost Soul (Luke 13:25)
Post by: DDiceRC on August 17, 2010, 08:18:31 PM
Luke 13_25 (Di)

Type: Lost Soul • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: If an opponent plays a good Dominant, you may place this Lost Soul beneath owner's deck. • Identifiers: None • Verse: Luke 13:25 • Availability: Disciples booster packs ()

Would this ability work at all against SoG/NJ? As I understand the timing, SoG/NJ would resolve first, and the player could choose this LS to rescue, meaning it wouldn't be left to be placed under deck. This would mean it only worked when AotL/GoYS/Grapes etc. were played. Correct?

From what I understand is happening in the Judas's plot thread no one accually knows.

If an opponent rescues that soul with SoG/NJ, then it is no longer a Lost Soul (it is a Redeemed Soul), so it cannot be placed under deck via its ability.

I agree. I think maybe this card was intended to slow down those rescues, but as worded it doesn't do that IMO. It is still worthwhile to use against Grapes and AotL. (Who will be the first player to use its ability in response to Glory of the Lord?  ;D)

I will be, because people play with extra doms in my playgroup just for my Sin in the Camp deck.  ;D

Im pretty sure this card was intended to work against sog and nj but I never saw this soul in playtesting so im not too sure... If a playtester could confirm how this soul should work that would be great!

This doesn't make much sense to work to stop SoG + NJ, because their abilities activate simultaneously (The game can't even end between them) so this ability would trigger AFTER the 2 lost souls are rescued, however this can be used to stop a rescue from AotL, or just to get rid of an extra lost soul, especially for site decks or lost soul manipulation decks

Are you sure about that?

but I guess technically you couldn't play it, because your opponent would already have a lost soul out...
or is my logic faulty

You can play any dominant at any time.  HT just wouldn't do anything when played if your opponent already has a LS.

Are SOG and NJ played from hand as if they were one card?  I didn't know it had been ruled that way.  I agree that there is no way to stop SOG from rescuing this lost soul.

But, hypothetically, if an opponent was not very smart in their selecting of lost souls, and wanted to rescue the Female-only LS with SOG and then this lost soul with NJ, wouldn't this lost soul be under the deck by that time?

No. They are played simultaneously, and no other abilities, triggered or otherwise, can be inserted between them.

Wow.  I assume these are the only two cards that can ever work this way from hand?  Thanks.

Currently, yes. The playing of SoG/NJ is the only legally simultaneous action that can be performed in Redemption.

Would this ability work at all against SoG/NJ? ... This would mean it only worked when AotL/GoYS/Grapes etc. were played. Correct?

This Lost Soul still "works" against SOG/NJ. Most times, people play SOG/NJ on their own Lost Souls. So, when they play SOG/NJ on any souls other than this one, you get to put this Lost Soul under its owner's deck. If you had no other Lost Souls they can access, then they have to wait till other Lost Souls come out to make rescues.

But, if by "works" you mean does it stop SOG/NJ from rescuing this soul, then I don't think it "works".
