Could the Magi search deck for a N.T. covenant?
The Magi
3/3 Purple Hero
Eastern Wise Men
"Search deck for a N.T. artifact and add it to hand."
Matthew 2:1
Thanks! :)

I thought I knew the answer to this, but then I read this:
could you recurr a covenant/curse with an ability that recurrs an enhancement
No. A cov/curse that is out of play (in deck, discard pile, or hand) is not an enhancement OR an artifact, but only a cov/curse. So it can't be targeted in those locations by cards that specify an enhancement.
The reason it can be discarded for Zimri, Uzzah, etc. is that when you use it (putting in art pile, or storehouse, or battle, or even discard it), then you can designate it as either an artifact or enhancement. However, only the owner of the card can make that designation.
I have to wonder now if the owner of the card can designate it as an artifact after the search (based on the Prof's second paragraph). I originally thought "no" based on the first paragraph.

No. You can't designate it as an artifact until after the search. It would need to be designated one beforehand in order to be targetable.

I guess I am not seeing the distinction you are making between the owner designating it as an enhancement for discarding versus designating it as an artifact for searching.

Agreed. Seems very inconsistent to me.

Double agreed

Once the covenant is designated for Enhancement/Artifact, it is used that way until discarded. Problem is, I could designate it as Art, search, and then re-designate as an enhancement to use in battle.
The only time you can designate is when it'll be the last time it will be used.
-
Not true. You can "designate" a Covenant as an Enhancement, put it in Storehouse, take it back, then use it as an Art.

Incorrect, one of the Prof's said that if you put a cov in storehouse it became a enhancement and it stayed that way until Discarded

Cite, and make sure the citation is after the new ruling that cards always reset in hand. They didn't used to before then.

It sure wasn't me. If you put an Covenant in SH and put it in your hand, you can make it be whatever you want it to be afterwards. The reason you have never been able to search deck/discard pile for an Cov/Curse with a card that searches for an Art/Enhancement is probably because it was in the REG that way, and it hasn't really been looked at. I agree it is inconsistent that you can use them for Uzzah/Zimri type abilities but not use The Magi, etc.
If there was any reason why this couldn't be the case, it would probably be that cards in your deck/discard are not in your control in the same way that cards in your hand and territory are, and so searching for them as Arts/Enhs doesn't fall under the generalized concept of "use". But that would be a rather arbitrary distinction that is both confusing, and unnecessary IMO. I don't know how many times the question of searching for a covenant/curse as an artifact has been asked, but it happens rather frequently, and I wouldn't mind having the answer be yes, instead of explaining why the answer is no.

It wasn't me either. I agree with the "other Prof" :)

I also assumed that this was the reason why the owner of a covenant/curse card could designate it when "using" it from hand, but couldn't "search" for it. I also don't have a strong feeling one way or the other on whether this rule gets changed as long as it stays an option only for the owner of the card. Gabriel and Amasai the Raider are plenty annoying already without them also being able to kill my covenants and curses from my deck.

Wait, rulings are made because elders find cards annoying?

No. Rulings are made because elders find players annoying. :o
-
I find certain players annoying. Can we ban them?

That was just a bit of anecdotal levity. The real reason it'd only be for the owner is because then it would be truly consistent with the new way you can use them with Uzzah/Zimri et al.
-
Regardless, I think we should ban players instead.

R.I.P. brian cooper.
oh wait, he got unbanned.
