Can Player A discard his Gates of Hell to add his demon to a battle between Player B and Player C?
That came up earlier, and I just wanted to make sure. We rule "yes", which caused things to become epic. Twice. (Both stopped the player from getting their 5th lost soul ;D)
I'd post the ability, but the REG isn't loading for some reason and I'm not going to go looking for my own copy. Something to the effect of "Yo son. Discard your deck fer a demon. You may discard this card to add that demon to battle, its liek ttly wiggity wack, dawg."
-
Oh, Wow. That's awesome if it works.
Here's Gates full ability:
The Gates of Hell
Type: Fortress • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: At any time, you may discard the bottom card of deck. If it is an orange demon or a Lost Soul, place it in your territory instead. You may discard this card to add your demon to the battle. • Attributes: Plays to set-aside area • Identifiers: None • Verse: Matthew 16:18 • Availability: Thesaurus ex Preteritus booster packs ()
I see nothing that says it doesn't work, But I'd have to look at the way we've ruled such things in the past and say maybe not? I'm honestly not sure, the wording is very vague.
-
I thought the same thing. I just wanted to make sure about it, though beings it might affect things at a tourny I'm going to tommorow. It was a pretty epic play though, he discarded 90% of his deck to get out (that orange demon that bands to an orange demon. Forgot its name) and Prince after a deadly AOC to block for someone else.
Another question: Zebulun makes an RA, the owner draws a card. If the owner plays a card, lets say a dominate, does Zebulun's ignore ability change?
-
It doesn't have to be the demon you discard and add to territory fwiw.
-
Yes Sauce, Zebulen is an ongoing check.

I am quite aware of that :). Just a little tough to do right after a AOC
Yes Sauce, Zebulen is an ongoing check.
Thanks. Thats crazy, we played that wrong. Wanderer should have won!
(He won anyway because of Ring Wraith's bad luck. Haha)

i coulda swore zebulun was a static ability.

i coulda swore zebulun was a static ability.
After a quick search, here's a quote from Gabe on the subject:
Yes, Zebulun's ability is dynamic, it changes as the controller's hand size changes.
-
Is that official, or an opinion? What in the REG justifies this position?
-
It is an ongoing ability. So at every time during battle, you can check what Zebulun is doing. When you enter battle, he is ignoring EC's with toughness greater than the number of cards in your hand. Then you play a dominant or two. Zebulun is still ignoring EC's with toughness greater than the number of cards in your hand, it's just that that number is now smaller.
-
Hey,
Yes, Zebulun's ability is dynamic, it changes as the controller's hand size changes.
This is correct.
Tschow,

Psh... you could have quoted MY post and said it was correct.... ;)

Correct. :)

How many times can you 'discard the bottom card of deck' and does 'any time' mean 'when you have initiative'?
-
Any time means any time ;) And there is no limit.
-
Any means ANY, and until you lack a deck.
-
Theorized decks for T1 and T2 were designed within an hour or two after the first Gates of Hell was pulled from a pack at Nationals last year. :o
-
Pretty much yeah, good times, good times.

Half!, Half!, Half!, Half!, Half!,... ;)
