I know territory class can be activated without being played in battle do that include character as well or do they still have to survive a battle first?

Territory Class characters' ability is always in effect, until they are discarded. This is what I have always played by, but I could be wrong.

If you are wrong, then so is everyone else I know. ;)

Territory-Class Character
Territory Class characters have abilities that activate when placed in battle in the same way as all other characters.  The abilities also activate each time the character is placed in a territory.  Territory Class character abilities that are active outside of battle are active while the character remains in the territory.  This also means that their ability ends when they leave battle or territory.

so, god of this world and jason, would have survive a battle be you can use  their abilities, correct.

This is a newer concept, so I expect to see a lot more confusion about how TC characters work for awhile.  What you are describing is what happens with 'normal' characters that are not Territory Class.  However, any character that is TC activates each time they hit battle and each time they hit a territory (what browarod posted is the definition for those characters).

So, if you place The god of This World into your territory, he actually activates then, and stays active until he leaves territory.  It is one of the advantages of these new characters :)
