Are Syrians and Assyrians the same, or are they distinct? I realize Assyrians are Pale Green and Syrians are Grey, I just didn't know for sure.

Syrians come from what is modern day Syria (based in Damascus as their capital). Assyrians came from what is modern day Northern Iraq with Ninevah as their capital. In Biblical Times, Syrians were a smaller kingdom and were more regional players similar in size and scope to Israel under David and Solomon (who defeated and overtook Syria during their reign) The Assyrians were more international players. They defeated the Babylonians, and the Egyptians (and everythign in between) and had quite a sizable Empire for the time. The Assyrians met their match when The Babylonians began a resurgence and defeated them, eventually claiming most of the Assyrian Empire for themselves.

If atypical is not typical and amoral is not moral, then Assyrians are not Syrians.
